I've a 2005 Chevy Classic with the EcoTec 2.2

How hard is it to change out the serpentine belt? Special tools needed? I'm getting close to 100K miles and I'd rather avoid taking it to a shop if I can.

Thanks

I've never done a 2.2 but it shouldn't be that bad. The factory workshop manual says to remove the inner fender liner, the plastic piece but I don't think it's a must. Just use a ratchet to work the tensioner, or rent a loaner tool from auto parts store, most let you pay for the tool and then give you a full refund when you return it.

Here is a picture from the factory repair manual.

Is the 2.2 different w.r.t belt location than the 3.1 engine? I only ask because I noticed on my last job with the Malibu that on the 3.1 you have to jack the engine up and remove a motor mount to change belts.

Something to look into, possibly.
