Hey guys,

My GF's car has about 90k and she likes to "extend" the OCI to somewhere around 5-6k using Castrol GTX (ez-lube outfits). Should this be recommended with that oil?

How do these Toyota (1.5li ?) engines deal with deposits and sludge (I don't remember hearing great stories about this topic).

I was thinking maybe I can start handling the oil changes and with some of the WM Super tech brand to save $$

Good thinking about doing the oil changes for your GF.

A good 5w30 SYN or Blend, should work well for her...

Good choices:

Valvoline 5w30 Synpower / Oci's 6,500 t0 7,500 +/-
Motorcraft 5w30 Blend / OCI: 5000 +/- / $12 for a 5 qt.jug-WM
Mobil 1, Pennsoil Plat...are some other good choices.

Be sure to use a quality filter...i.e. Purolator Classic or Pureone, NAPA Gold, WIX....

I dont have a Scion buy I like to use Mobil 1 for 10k mile OCIs in my Malibu 138k miles and no problems yet. Just the front wheel bearings and the power steering and fuel pumps are only things I've replaced.

I have the same engine. I've used PP, Formula Shell Full Synthetic. and Pennz Ultra.

The UOAs on the PP and FS came back Ok after close to 7k miles but I wouldn't go far past that with these 2 oils as the TBN was about 2.

My driving is at least 80% highway.

I drove the Ultra about 8k miles but did no UOA.

Thanks for the responses.

I forgot about the Motorcraft 5w30 Blend at WM..that's most likely the best deal in the store.

What do you guys think about Castrol GTX?

My yaris has the same engine and since toyota wants 5k changes thats what I do. No matter what kind of oil I use. Always synthetic though.
