The older son just picked up a 2004 CBR 1000RR that's been ridden a couple of times/year for the last 10 years. 17k kms on it. Started right up and he took if for a spin before buying. $5k cdn dollarettes. Getting new tires right away, doing and oil change and flushing brake/clutch fluid. Tokiko front brakes and pads are good. Rears look good and work fine as well.
Can you help with these questions:
What oil?
What part number is the oil filter?
I assume the engine oil is also the gearbox oil?
Coolant to use?
Air filter part number?
Any other suggestions?

I had the CBR 900RR Fireblade the CBR1000 SC24 and CBR 1100xx and used Castrol 4T now known as Power 1 and 4T RS in all of them, 10w40 should be ideal for this one.
If it helps I got 248K on the SC24 and over 100K on the others only because I sold them but no mechanical issues with any of them, all ran like the day were made. 5K Km OCI.

Is E10 a thing in your area? I would be very suspect a 2004 motorcycle came from the factory with ethanol proof components? Can you source 100% gas? Maybe there are some key components that can be changed out (My '01 Ducati had 2 (rubber?) fuel lines that were turning a weird grey/brown)

Thank you. This is a LOT of bike and should last him a while. Looking forward to servicing it this weekend. It's a beauty, but my riding days are over...

E10 exists. Will check those hoses. It's fuel injected and runs well, so there's that.

Don't worry about the E10. I have a 1983 Honda Nighthawk CB550 and an 1982 XJ750 seca. As well as my 2001 ZRX1200. They all run fine on E10. NEVER an issue with hoses, carbs, fuel system compatibility etc. The 2004 ST1300 I had for a while was fine as well. That one had fuel injection, fuel pump, etc. The same as your CBR with respect to those systems.

Don't over think it.

Agree. I actually run E15 88 octane in everything. I tested it and it has varied from 7-12% ethanol. Boat, motorcycle, generators, lawn mowers, all have burned it without issue for the entire year.

We have a station that sells it for 50 cents cheaper than regular and fill a 120 gal tank in my pickup and fill everything off the tank.

Got through some maintenance on the weekend. Flushed the brakes and clutch with new DOT 4 LV fluid. New front tire installed. Chain adjusted and oil changed. Not sure how old the oil was, but it was visually opaque with clutch material. Flowed out nicely with no glitter or sludge. Not sure how well motul 5100 is thought of, but refilled with this:

use 10W40 doesn’t matter the quality at all, just use JASO MA one, anyone you like ❤️
If I live on USA probably Mobil 1 10W40 Racing

owner manual suggestion and same on service manual as well.

The bike is bulletproof and that I write it down with blood, even without oil it runs in other words.

Tested 8 years on drag racing and 6 seasons in road racing track use only spark plugs , brake pads , tires , brake fluid (Castrol SRF) ,clutch disks, water and oil we change.

I used that Motul in my 2014 Yamaha. It is the smoothest shifting oil I tried. That includes Mobil, Castrol, Valvoline, Yamaha, and a couple of others. The Motul had the least clunky pedal feel and smoothest/less ratchety shifts.

Thanks for the info. It seems to be the lowest end Motul oil, but still enough quality to run for the rest of the summer season (and maybe again for next spring's oil change). The only little hickup was getting it home after completing the sale. It has no fuel gauge and ran out of gas waiting to get to the pump at the gas station. Filled it and it took a couple of tries to get it to start, but has run perfectly every since.... For a 22 year old bike, it still looks modern and runs like a top.

Motul 3000 is the lowest end and way overpriced for a conventional oil. The 5100 is the group 3 "Technosynthese" blend. I would confidently run the 5100 for the standard factory OCI.
