170k miles and had some leaky valve cover gaskets because of nissan's odd design.

Pulled the intake manifold to get to them, pleasantly surprised by what I found.

I switched to mobil1 0w40 a while back. Can get 4000-6000 miles out of an oil change before it shears down. I can get three oil changes out of two jugs though changing the fram ultra every 15k.

Thoughts on cleanliness?

I had a 95 Pathfinder I bought used years and years ago. Got it with 120k and drove it to 295k. I ran a Fram OCOD and Havoline 5w30 in the warm temps and M1 5w30 in the winter. I know the ticking you're talking about. Usually hit about the miles you described. I changed my oil on May1 and Nov1 usually with at least 5k miles but never over 7k. It quit being reliable due to reasons not engine related. I fixed the ticking sound by upgrading to a Kenwood CD changer with two 10 inch Rockford Fosgate subs. I was so cool in high school.

That is a very clean looking engine.

Good thread, slowly evolving over the year, as you bump it and keep us post on the next oil change.

I agree with the M1 0W-40 oil ( or similar) on a engine that is hard on oil with a small sump capacity. A synthetic Euro A3/B4 oil with MB 229.5 is a very high quality oil. So is a quality HDEO.

Thanks for keeping us posted and up to date on events.
