I have a 2002 Maxima. Sometimes when it starts right after it revs to about 1500 rpm then stalls. It doesnt do it to frequently and there is no way to predict it will happen. It has new fuel pump and plugs have about 40k on them. There are no codes and runs fine once it is running. Any ideas on what to look for.

Do you ever clean the throttle body in the Car? I'm not sure if the Maxima has a IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve. Toyota V6s do and sometimes that gets all gummed up and leads to a rough idle or hard start.

I would check those places first.

It is a Maxima, what do YOU think? :-)

Does the stall happen more often on a restart when the car has been off for about two or three minutes?

Of course I know that but I just read the original post and OP said " No codes"

I also vote for a good cleaning of the throttle body bore and plate, and maybe the idle air valve while yo are at it.
Spray MAF cleaner is ridiculously easy to use, and is wise.

Will these things fix it? Probably, but if not, you have a very good and necessary base to go from.

Mine used to do that stall for last eleven years but only when the conditions are exactly right, including engine temperature, outside temperature and the time between the restart. After the first stall, the only way to keep it running was to blip the throttle to prevent it from stalling i.e. if you keep on restarting, it would die every single time until you blip the throttle. Knock on the wood but after good cleaning of the throttle body (mine is 2000, so it is mechanical throttle' 2002 might be electronic throttle, BE VERY CAREFUL) I have not encountered that restart stall.

I was thinking TB, but as mine is electronic, I have been hesitant to clean it. I have heard of some horror stories after cleaning electonic TB. Anyone have a DIY for electronic TB

Most important thing to remember when cleaning electronic tb is not to move it by hand. Turn the ignition on but engine off and put a brick on gas pedal to open the throttle plate if you need it to move. Also look into 3m DIY kit

I also did only supervised the cleaning when my mechanic changed the starter for me. He had taken most of the plumbing off and I suggested if he could clean it and he did it. Afterwards I was apprehensive but did not get cel
