Hi

My brother has an 02 Accord 4cyl, automatic (closing in on 200,000 miles on original trans). I put some Amsoil ATF in it some time ago and it's been working fine so far. I have stock of both Maxlife ATF and Mobil 1 ATF but I'm out of Amsoil. I noticed that the Maxlife spec's Z1 but the M1 doesn't(actually I don't see any spec on the bottle). The M1 is full synthetic.

What's the recommendation here? Use the Maxlife because it calls out the spec? Use the M1 because it's full syn? Break the bank and get some more Amsoil?

The four cylinder ones are not a guaranteed fail, they are a hit or miss.

It probably doesn't matter what you fill it with at this point.

I have a 92 Accord with about the same mileage, it has the old 4 spd hondamatic transmission, I hadt the fluid changed a few thousand miles ago and I put in Maxlife and it runs great, a bit smoother shifting too. I don't know if the newer ones are as bullet proof has mine but i wouldn't worry about changing the fluid i have heard many people put either maxlife or amsoil utf in honda at's with great results

This is a 4-speed from the 6th generation so the 4-cyl failed a lot as well unlike the 7th generation 5 speed.

OP,

There are a multitude of choices that have a "recommended for Z1" type label. Most of those would be fine. AMSOIL ATF would work fine & since you have already done a refill with this, I would probably stick with it for a while.
