A TSB is a technical service bulletin. Basically when the manufacturer identifies a known defect and fix, but they don't feel it warrants a recall, they issue a TSB.

thanks, I guest I need go dealer.

If you aren't planning on doing it right away, Summit Racing carries Auto Trak II for about $7 a quart.

You don't need to go to the dealer for a TSB. Any reputable mechanic will be able to access a TSB and do the fix.

Looks like it is most likely a new switch that is needed, a $60 fix.

I came up with this just by typing some search terms into Yahoo.

You're welcome, and nice truck by the way. It's a fitting addition to your fleet of American V8s.

The GMT800 platform was very well designed. 180K is just getting broken in and not uncommon at all for these.

Thank you for nice comment !!

Nice! Same color combination as my Dad's 2000 GMC Sierra Extended Cab.

I keep trying to get him to trade his off, but he won't. His just rolled over 100k.

Nice looking truck.

I would find out if the dealer can get a replacement drain plug before tackling the trans pan, or just drop the pan without draining it first.

Like others have said, the shoulders on that bolt are short and easy to strip. I wonder if the last guy actually got it off, or quit when he messed it up. I started using mine at 35,000 miles, and it has always come off with careful, steady pressure against the socket. A simple drain has always taken less than 4 quarts for me, and the pan drop/filter change took 5.25. The manual would have called for Dexron III. I have been using Mobil 1 ATF.

Be sure you can loosen the differential fill plug before taking out the drain plug.

I have also heard that Techron can deal with fuel level sender problems. You might give that a try before getting into a mechanical repair. (The sender is in the tank.)

There should be a fuel filter inside the driver's side frame rail.

Don't forget the cabin air filters under the dash.

Thank for all the tips, I will do everything I can.

This morning is the moment of true, I alway scare about cold engine knock or tick until warm up type of engine ( mabe because those tick/tap/knocking sound from the jeep 4.0 still haunting me

). anyway I turn the key and engine is quiet, no odd noise, sound healthy. that is big releive .

Yes definaly will drain and fill with 5w30 or 10w30 QS defy with pure1 oil filter.

change from owner 20w50 back to factory recomment 5w30 qs defy, run quiet ! was gonna using 10w30, but im glad im going with 5w30.

Sorry I didn't get back here in time to answer your 6 quart question. I imagine you have discovered that six is, in fact, the right number.

You may or may not know that these engines have roller cams in them, and as a result, are possibly not quite as critical on the amount of moly or other extreme pressure additives in their oil as an engine with a flat tappet cam. Ymmv.

Otoh, they are famous for having cold start-up piston slap, so you may notice that at some point, at least in cooler months.

If you look at http://z71tahoe-suburban.com/iboard/index.php? under drivetrain, you will
see a pinned thread about the service 4 wheel drive message that may be helpful.

thanks, that noise is what im affaird about, but no noise, really quiet actually. knock on wood

one last question, back when I first heard about vortec, and something about intake manifold gasket leaking coolant, and fel pro come out new design to fix the problem, what year is that common problem, it that common on these 2000 gm 5.3L ?

The 5.3 were somewhat prone to leaking intake gaskets, but they DO NOT leak coolant. No coolant flows through it at all. Some would leak air, causing a lean condition and a check engine light. Fel Pro does have a problem solver steel framed gasket to replace the nylon framed OE gaskets.

good to know, thanks ! only have 1 problem, 1 is awd service ( I beleive it the switch after doing all the search and some mention here ), and the sticky fuel gauge , and going to doing all the fluid change, not a bad on this truck cause front rear transfercase all have drain and fill plug, can do all under 1 hours. before I can let her road ready

You sound like you're getting good advice on here, that is nice.

I'd just like to add, nice oil choice, sounds like a winner going forward.

My FIL has a 2004 Silverado with a 4.8. Very nice trucks.

update : Now I know why the guy using such a heavy oil 20w50, because the truck have oil pan leak, it not dripping , but some time I can see a drip got stuck on the frame. Im gonna keep using 5w30 high miles oil, might try 10w30, but no more high then that.

And the transmission plug, I know it gonna be pity to take off, and Im not going to put it back in, I order new one from dealer, and just now I try see if I can get it loose, but it just strip more. it sise 15, im thinking using size 14 and hammer it in.
