My FIL has a 2004 Silverado with a 4.8. Very nice trucks.


I heard nothing bad about the 4.8 or the 5.3 or 6.0. those are known to go over 200k easy.

Just craw under the truck again , shine the light, and it not a bad leak, it look normal for all high miles car i seen. anyway I have feeling the high miles oil will slow it down in a long run, so imma stick with 5w30 10w30 oil weight.

Make sure you have the new trans plug before trying to take out the old one.

When you finally do the job, use a long-handled ratchet, the longest you have. I've had good luck lying with my shoulder right under the bolt and pushing straight up against the ratchet head with one hand. The other hand pulls the handle, of course. The plug is in tight, but will break loose easily with steady pressure.

the plug already strip , im not suprise , I already pick up new drain plug while im at the dealer, cause I know if I ever going to take off the plug, im not put the same plug back in.

It's good to know they sell the plug. I was worried it might be discontinued since they stopped including the plug in the pan after a few years.

the guys that design the plug, should get shot ! the nut bolt is way way too short. That why it strip so easy. if the nut bolt is little longer it would eleminate the strip part. but drain plug on the pan is best thing ever happent. My truck lucky enought to have drain and fill plug every where, front diff, rear diff, transfer case.. transmission, but first time change I will definally drop pan and filter change, next time I just gonna drain it out thru drain plug, mabe every year hehe.

quick update: about the oil leak, I dont know what happent it use to leak about 5+ drop, but now it leak about 1 drop or barely not on floor any more. the preview owner using 20w50 for slow the oil leak, im just using 5w30 QS defy and its only a week old and it already slow/stop the leak. Knock on wood, I hope it stay that way until I have enought moneys to fix what ever leak.
