Doing a drain/refill on my transmission/diff and a flush on my power steering and trying to decide which ATF to use. Considering Super Tech Mercon v, valvoline Dex/merc maxlife, or castrol import. Any reccomendations?

I don't think you can go wrong with Supertech Dex VI for the price!

It performs much better in my Toyota trans than Dex/Merc III does. More crisp, yet smooth shifts.

Yeah I was thinking the max life because I'm at 220k and figured some seal conditioners couldn't hurt, I had just heard that it was a little on the thin side

Wow, users Nick1994 and Nick1996 both have 2000 Camrys...?

This is a little weird.

I know, everytime he posts I get so confused lol.

I saw this post and thought, "I hardly ever post in the ATF section, and I don't remember creating a thread about my Camry?"

Back on topic, I use MaxLife ATF in my Camry, have done 2 drain and fills so far. About 2, maybe 2-1/2 quarts came out on each drain and fill.

Also, the differential is a separate unit and you can change it too. I think its a 17mm to drain it, but the fill bolt is up higher, accessible from underneath though. It's on the backside of the transmission. I had to use a crow's foot to get mine loose. Take the filler plug off before the drain plug. I then used a siphon pump from Harbor Freight to fill it. I think it was 1-1/2 quarts.

*smacks head*

Couldn't figure out how Nick1994 wouldn't already being using Maxlife and/or would be asking about it in the first place. Reading too fast!

Yes, through the valve guide seals. I blows out blue smoke on startup for 5-10 seconds every morning. Sometimes a little in the afternoon.

It's the valve guide seals, burns a quart every 2,500-3,000 miles. Doesn't hurt anything. Mine hasn't changed the consumption with conventional HM oil or regular synthetic oil.

Where's Nick1995?

Next time you're in NYC go to Big Nick's. The one on Broadway is the first one from 1961.
The one by Columbus Ave. is also super. There are only 2-same owner.
Nothing overpriced or touristy....authentic, bustling restaurants with great food.

When you are able to run pre Dex VI fluids - that opens the door for Mobil 1 synthetic ATF - it is a bit thicker.
Know a mechanic who pulls large boat with an old 2500 Chevy - he cooked all fluids but that stuff ...
