I recently purchased a new Echo string trimmer. The book says to use only ISO-L-EGD (ISO/CD13738) and J.A.S.O. FC 2 cycle oil.

Problem is I have about 100 pint bottles of Pennzoil "Premium Outboard" TC W3 oil and wondering if I can use it. I use this in my 50hp Suzuki OB engine but 100 pints will outlast me at the rate I go fishing now!

Echo calls for 2.6 ounces per gallon and the Pennzoil states 3 ounces per gallon. Any ideas/thoughts on this stuff? Hate to buy the expensive Echo oil if this will be ok.
Thanks
Mark

100 pints is quite a stash of the Pennzoil TC-W3 outboard oil!

I can understand your desire to use it up, but your Echo string trimmer really needs the ISO-L-EGD 2 stroke oil.

Air cooled 2 cycle engines run at higher rpm's and engine temps than a marine 2 cycle and a low ash oil is desired to keep the rings from sticking.

The Echo Powerblend is a very good, semi-synthetic 2 cycle mix oil.

Thanks for the reply and advice. Guess I'll buy the Echo. Are there any more affordable oils that would be ok to use?

I got 5 CASES of the Pennzoil at an auction last year. Had the stuff coming out my ears! Sold 50 bottles to a friend with a boat! LOL

Ok, guess I'll shop around for the Echo oil. Home Depot is pretty proud of the stuff!

Anyone heard of Red Max 2 cyle oil? I've searched through Google and not found much on it. Found Red Max model fuel, but not the oil. Guy on eBay has a CASE of it claiming its for all trimmers. Waiting for a reply to an email I sent.

The 2.6 oz of Mobil 1 per gallon of 89 octane unleaded gas will meet the manufactures requirements and your echo should run well on it. I use a Mobil 1 MX2T at 32 to 1 and 91 octane Gasoline in all my two-cycle engines because I like to know that they are getting enough oil to reduce the wear to a minimum. I have never had a problem doing this in any of my motors. They stay clean on the inside, don't smoke after warm up, and never have I had a exhust port pluging problem. I would not use any gasoline containing alcohol in a two-cycle engine though.

Great reading you will find using the search engine. Lots of opinions.

Racing 2t [Mobil] will burn clean at 32:1 Living in Arizona, plan on having your equipment run very hot. This would be four (4) ounces per gallon.

Some will say run 50:1, which is your 2.56 ounces per gallon. Most new two stroke engines now run much hotter than before yet call for higher ratios for emissions. Reading some owners manuals; they call for 50:1 only in California.

40:1 compromise at 3.2 ounces per gallon. Talking with many dealers of commercial lawn equipment for trimmers; lack of oil (ratio) or wrong oil type are the major causes for repairs.

Good luck with your Echo trimmer.

Its does get toasty here! I'll go with 3.5 oz and see how it does. I like my stuff to last a long time. My 'ol 77 chevy truck has 348,000 miles and still looks pretty good. Different engine, but same truck. Been totaled 2 times over the years but put back together. Stuff out here seems to last forever.
