HEY ALL! HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE USE OF 2 CYCLE OIL IN MY 225 HP OUTBOARD 4 STROKE MOTOR. I ACCIDENTLY POURED SOME (ABOUT 1 LTR) 2 CYCLE OIL IN A HALF FULL TANK OF 4 CYCLE OIL AND I THEN INJECTED A SMALL AMOUNT INTO THE PISTONS JUST PRIOR TO THE PLUG CHANGE PRIOR TO FIRST RUN OF SEASON. IT WASNT UNTIL THEN DID I REALIZE THE MISTAKE.

MY QUESTION IS TO WHAT EXTENT DO I NEED TO CLEAR OUT THE SYSTEM AND WHAT NEGATIVE AFFECTS COULD THE 2 CYCLE IT HAVE ON THE MOTOR IF I DID NOTHING BUT RUN IT THROUGH?

ANY AND ALL COMMENTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

You added the 2 cyl oil to the fuel or the engine oil?
If you added a liter of this stuff to the engine oil, what is the engine oil capacity?
A liter of the 2 stroke in a bunch of liters of regular engine oil would probably not cause any measurable harm.
It would depend upon the oil capacity, though.

Where ever you put the 'wrong oil'. Drain and refill with a fresh correct fill. Not worth a few bucks the oil or fuel costs compared to risking that motor. Better to be on the safe side...IMO I don't see any benefit in adding oil to cylinders? I would just fog the cylinders when you put the boat away for the off season. Not good to risk hydro-lock with too much oil in combustion chambers..

eh, adding 2 stroke oil to fuel should be ok if that liter equals just a few percent. It would be like fogging the engine. If just a little, I would just fill the tank and reduce oil percentage more and then run.

The 2T oil in the cylinders would also be ok and also equal fogging/winterizing, but to make sure you did not put too much in, crank it without plugs for a few seconds to eject any excess.

IF however, you put 2stroke oil in the crankcase, DO NOT RUN! Drain and refill with correct oil.
