After having the HRX for a few years or so, yesterday the throttle cable broke. Weird that the inner cable broke about in the middle, where there is no bend. Every spring I sharpen the blades, change oil etc to include a shot of cable lube down each cable. Hummm
So to get the job done, I just choked it by hand (while son pulled the rope), then zip-tied to maintain high running rpm to get the lawn done. Then after all is finished, took a motorcycle ride to the Honda OPE dealer. They had the cable and I was surprised is was just under 10-bucks.
So first issue ever with this mower, so very minor, surprised a Honda part was under 10 bucks at a dealer, and back in business. Can't complain about that.

If you think $10 bucks is cheap for a cable, you'll be really excited if you ever have to buy a carb from the dealer..... 15 bucks! I couldn't believe it.

I understand a $10.00 cable probably is not worth the trouble... but do not HRX's have a 5 year warranty and have not they be running the extra year of warranty deal on and off for several years?

wow a carb for $15 vs $80. At 80 it would be like, can get 5 carbs and coffee for the honda.
Warranty I don't recall. It's a few years old and I figured a small easy part, cash, in & out, fast & easy. The throttle cable outer jacket had a part number and the fella just walked back and returned with a new cable. Probably took the same time to punch it in the computer to price and transaction the sale. He smiled when I handed it to him and he was like "great... don't have to know which HRX & don't have to look it up first".
I was expecting to pay 20 or so for a Honda labeled packaged cable. Although new, I gave it a dose of cable lube before installation.

Honda is like Stihl, Echo and all the rest of the better quality brands. Many, many of their parts are manufactured in China because they just can't afford to pass up the cheaper production costs for their parts. The Honda label only means that the manufacture of the parts were sanctioned by Honda (and possibly do a flyby through Japan on their way here). What a world!
