I think that a twelve mile drive would do a pretty good job of warming everything up in all but the coldest weather, which shouldn't last more than a day or two in your climate, which is pretty much like our's.
You'll see a few below zero mornings each winter, as do we, but it ain't North Dakota.
You should be good for a year, although without a UOA I'm only making an educated guess.
PP does have good starting TBN and retention, judging by what I've seen in the UOA forum.
The other George has done really well with his Accord doing what he originally suggested for you, although he's using dino, but he does live in a less extreme climate, which does help.

My dad's 97' beater Accord (4cyl) has 210k miles. He drives it 110 miles a day, so he doesn't rack up miles on his LEX. The Accord consumes about a quart in 10,000 miles. The oci is 10k because all of the miles are highway. It's still on the original timing belt, so i expect that to break any second now!

You have to plead, grovel, and beg so that your Dad's car is saved from the salvage yard.....he'll destroy a great engine by being cheap about the T belt change.

Heck tell him you'll split the cost. It's a shame to see probably one of the best Accord versions (CD5) of all time go to waste!

I have a 97 Accord with 148K miles. It does have what I suspect is a rear main seal leak, but it's not a big leak, just a nuisance. I've used Castrol GTX 5W30 since new, but just switched to Mobile Super HM in an attempt to stop the leak.

He already has another dd, that he uses on shorter trips. (i.e. not to work which is 110 miles roundtrip)

But, it's a great engine. No, worries though I have another 97' sitting around at my uncle's shop that I'll get running once this timing belt breaks and kills the engine. LOL
