1997 F250HD 7.3 Powerstroke

15 quarts
You'll want to use an oil that's "Approved" for or "Meets" Ford Specification WSS-M2C171-F1
You can find that on :
  • Mobil Delvac Extreme 15w-40
  • Rotella T4 & T6 15w-40
  • Chevron Delo XPS 15w-40
  • Super Tech 15w-40 "Conventional" & they have a newer "Full Synthetic" version I did a VOA on HERE
  • Castrol GTX 15w-40
  • Traveller at TRACTOR Supply 15w-40
  • Oreilly's Auto 15w-40
  • Fram at Advance Auto 15w-40
  • Sinopec Synthetic 15w-40 <---I've run it with success.
I don't have any problems using an oil that says it "Meets" that specification but if you don't want to here's the officially approved list

Thank you!
Few things to note. Change the glow plugs at 100k. Use a bit of Anti-seize on the threads of the new ones & only use OEM. You can get an aftermarket glow plug relay that is rated higher amperage. Plug in if 20f or below is expected. Replace the mechanical fan clutch by 150k and probably wouldn't hurt to just get another new radiator. I found an OEM on on eBay for $150 or so. I sold my 95' at 275k. You have the last year of that model body. They earned their reputation for good reason.

Thanks for the info appreciate it.

I inherited my grandfather's 1997 F250HD 7.3 Powerstroke. Does anyone know how many quarts this thing holds? Should I use motorcraft oil or Mobile 1 Delvac 15-40? Truck has 62k miles only and looks new inside and out. Still plastic in the floors from new.
Wow, you are lucky, take good care of it, especially with those miles. I wish I inherited something like that.......or anything at all.

Let's see some pics! Amazing trucks

You see in the pictures he left the factory plastic in and put the floor mats over the chunks of carpet he cut for extra protection. He always swept it out with the little stiff bristle hand held hand broom. Trucks never seen a vaccume. You see the red tint on the side of the seat? It's from his red shop towel he used to carry in his pocket daily. It's just fuzz it will vaccume right off. Awesome truck.
