I have the 1998 version, with the same engine. I use Maxlife 5w30 blend and a Fran Ultra UG3600 oversized flter.

Is that a 1MZ-FE engine? If so, I have managed nearly 350,000 miles on Mobil 1 and Toyota OEM filters. No excess consumption and no weird noises.

Well, for oil, I assume this would be in 10w30 or 5w30 range, being a Toyota from the 90's. Consult your manual, if it exists.
Unless you have burning issues, there isn't much point in going up or down from either of those grades.

And whether you choose synthetic or not is up to you, too.
Bearing in mind the 1MZ-FE has been known to develop sludge more willingly than other engines - so don't run a full interval on conventional, and be wary of synthetic too.

If the engine does have a sludge issue, shorter runs on whatever oil you choose might help. Don't mess around with snake-oils promising to "clean engines," as these may cause more problems than they solve. If you're really serious, you might run a 10w30 diesel oil with petrol specifications.

As for the oil filter, provided it fits and screws on (and is OEM size or larger), you're good to go. I did a quick Google search for you, too: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search...&vi=1387043

1995 1MZFE were NOT part of the sludge years.

They're not picky on oil or filters. My brother has a 96 ES300 and it burns a ton of oil, so it gets topped off with all types of different oils. Have run Wix filters and currently a Fram orange can.

For a 5k OCI, use Napa Synthetic, which is on sale for $2.99 this month. It's rebranded Synpower. While you're there, pick up a Napa Silver or Proselect filter. The gold is top quality, but no need to spend the extra money if you don't want to.

For a longer OCI, but don't go beyond 10k, my pick is Castrol Edge 0w30, but Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 is also a great oil. Pair it with Fram Ultra, Wix XP, Napa Platinum, CQ Blue, or Mobil 1.
