1994 Ducati 900SS, Rotella T6 5w40, 2000 miles

Ran 5w40 because I was doing a lot of short trips (<5mi) and some long ones (120 miles) in the NYC winter (temps as low as 17 F, but more often around 40 degrees). When it warmed up, I switched back to Mobil 1 20w50. Dunno if I should stick with lighter weight oil for next year.

The flashpoint fell but the oil stayed in-grade. I don't know if 20w50 is necessarily any better.

I was thinking the same thing.

But does this look the the proper choice of oil? How can I tell if 20w50 would be better? It's tough without oil pressure / temp gauges.

Buy something comparable to what the owners manual recommends.
They say 20-50 buy 20-50 if it's 5-40 then there you go.
