Hey everyone, would love to get recommendations on oil for my 92 Prelude with 167,000 miles on it. I haven't been picky about oil to date but am going to start changing my own. I've kept up an OCI of about 4,000 miles since I bought the car at 90,000. My driving is light commuting, nothing that I'd consider severe conditions. I live in the Los Angeles, CA area. Thanks for your input in advance!

especially in that honda motor, they are very easy on oil, I personally have yet to see a slugged up honda motor, and we were by a huge margin a honda family before, they all looked almost clean with whatever bulk motor oil our cars used to get.

I agree with the previous recommendations. My mother-in-law had a 99 accord i fed a steady diet of trop artic 5w30 & had 387k on it when she donated it to the local battered women's shelter, still see the car around town from time to time..

If it's a ricer like this, bombing around town then I'd use some heavy duty oil in it like Mobil 1 0w40

My vote goes for Supertech if you just want cheap good oil.
Quakerstate, Pennzoil conventional, or Mobil Super 5000, if you want a brand name.

Those motors shouldn't be too picky about oil. I would get whichever 5w30 is on sale at the time of your next oil change. The big auto parts stores always run deals for "5 qt + filter".
BTW, is yours a VTEC motor?

Appreciate the recommendations. I guess I'm looking for peace of mind and a good price/value point. Sounds like a name brand conventional like Pennzoil conventional may be plenty at a 4k OCI. This car has been good to me and I'd be happy to drive it for another ten years if I can.

A friend of mine had a '91 years ago and it was great to drive. tight turning radius and very little body roll.
As for the oil, any 5 or 10w30 will do. Pick one you like. I like the Pennzoil conventional for 4K idea. My Dad put 200k miles on his accord before selling it. The last couple of years it was running beautifully on Pennzoil conventional.

My 96 civic did great on 0w40 syntec. I live in the LA area also. I did 5k oci on it with no consumption. It used 5w20 (synthetic) when I tried that. No noticeable mpg difference. I would probably go with a pennzoil high mileage (or other High Mileage oil) Xw30 in it.
