Well I know the best way would have been to drop the pan but that was something I would have needed help with at my age. Just to show how old I am I learned to drive this car in 1970. By the way I looked into the rear main seal issue and by this year it shows a rubber seal. Thanks to everyone who responded

Add MMO and run it lightly for a few days, that will get the sludge out.

Keep an eye on the other seals . Transmission, rear end, brakes, etc... for leakage.
