Lucky for him I talked him into the 8/85 factory Mopar warranty. 2016 Renegade Trailhawk - 2.4L TigerShark Multi-Air - Mostly dealer OCI's at MM, some independent. Burned a lot of oil along the way, had the software updates that reduced that some but it still used a good amount. Low oil came on a couple times which when I topped it off needed over 2 quarts to get to full mark (takes about 5.5qts). Started getting CEL's for oil pressure, dealer said bad sensor, messed up connector/wiring etc. Replaced and a week later same thing. They took it back and put gauges on it. 5psi oi pressure at idle, 20 psi higher RPM. 3 cylinders with a lot of scoring. Took 9 MONTHS to get a new motor.

A couple other issues with coolant leaks after and other BS. It is now on a severe service schedule of 4k miles, he does mostly around town driving. First change got VRP 5W-30, second change got Delo XSP 5W-40 both with factory filters. I think 1500 miles left on this OCI until next change.

Factory long block installed, comes with 2 year unlimited mileage warranty on the motor. I think we have 1 year left. Rest of vehicle is out of warranty.

What is that junk in filter from factory?

I couldn’t tell ya. I’m wondering if some glue or sealers or…..

Didn’t feel like carbon or sludgy

Better than the factory filter that I removed from my wife's then 2017 Renegade that had a torn filter media. Good old Purolator junk.

His is going to get the Mopar filter for the next year just because of easy documentation. After that it will probably be a Premium Guard or whichever is BITOG approved/recommended at that time.

Your wife's factory filter makes me sad.
