I was looking at doing some engine cleaning this summer with an HDEO.

the manual (yep stayed with the car all these years and multiple owners, complete with kid doodles)

says 10w-30 or straight 30 for temp range.

I wondering if going to 15w40 would be ok? coldest ambient would be about 70F in the morning to 100+ daytime.

I was gonna go with a house brand sae30 but then WM goes and sticks rotella t 15w40 on the end cap for 25 bucks.

thoughts?

and this is for the car in my sig.

With your mileage, the 15w40 won't hurt a thing. Your old Caddy will like it. Also check your Wal Mart to see if they have the Rotella T5 10W-30, some do and it's a very good oil also.

Probably you would get better results running a quart of Redline oil than the HDEO. I am not sure that oils will clean up deposits rather they will keep the engine clean .

thanks for turning me onto the t5 10w-30 I think that would work nicely.

I think I'll make that my new year round fill. :D

What kind of oci should I run with that oil?

normally I run cheapo super tech at 3k for conventional or 5k for full syn.

maybe 4k or 5k for the T5?
