The 10w30/30 weight small engine oil seemed a lot quieter. I almost wonder if they got carried away with that 20w50 recommendation in these small lawn mower engines. Hopefully my engine don't blow becaise it's probably $2k for a new engine. I doubt it though, didn't see anything wrong with the oil visually. No black goop at the bottom etc. This one is an fx481v kawasaki

My theory is it probably takes a good 20-25 minutes before it gets to the upper end of operating temperature, so it may be way thicker than it really needs for 70 percent of the the time it's running. Most times this mower is shut off after 15 minutes or so.
 
It definitely sounds a bit quieter than it did with the thicker oil. Put about an hour on it today. I mean these Kawasaki's have a lot of valve train noise just by their nature compared to other engines.
