I wonder how cold that was? I poured some 10W40 yesterday in 34 degree temps and it was nothing like that.

It was a freezer most likely set pretty low temp normally they do not go lower than -20-25C, which makes it quite bad unless the freezer was rigged to go below that.
Then again Castrol Magnatec has been getting very bad rep on european auto-boards.
I would not hesistate to use our GTX 10W40 in summer
