100 watt incandescent light bulbs

I was at Menard's tonight (a midwestern chain of home improvement stores), and was able to buy 100 watt standard incandescent light bulbs.

These are the "old school" bulbs... 4 of them for a $1. It is still nice to have these for work lights, out in the garage.

I thought the government stopped us from being able to get these anymore?

Edit: I see now on the packaging, that the distributor of the bulbs is in Canada...

When they outlaw incandescent light bulbs, I'll be going 100% LED bulbs. I refuse to run the CFLs. I have had too many of them start to melt down. Fire hazard, besides releasing mercury in your house every time one breaks. No thanks. Right now I am 100% incandescent in the house.

Wow, I never had one melt. I have been using them over 10 years. Were you using them in recessed / sealed fixtures?

Our government tried to ban incandesent bulbs some years ago, but it was like making Americans give up guns - as a country we revolted and they backed down. They are cheap and nasty now and keep blowing, so am using halogen at the moment - same output and less watts.

The author that we met in NY claimed to have 13x 100W bulbs running at any one time, as they didn't like turning them off...that's a pretty decent additional load on the A/C system

I've got my lifetime supply of incandescent bulbs, but with that said I've tried 2 of the newer CFL's and they light up instantly and work well. Haven't tried the LED ones yet but plan to in the near future.

You're able to buy existing stock but they are not being manufactured any longer. 75w next, then the 60w. I tried a couple of LED bulbs and I was impressed. CFL's do run hot and from all the stories I've heard do NOT last the claimed hrs on the packaging. Halogen bulbs are not the answer as a regular A-15/19 bulb. Run hot and rated the most for 3000 hrs. from what I've read on the packaging. ***Does any know if Calif. still has rolling blackouts (where certain grids are deliberately taken off line) to save the grid from overload? This was the last straw that forced me to move from CA. about a decade ago. Pacific Gas and Electric, VERY high rates.***

I have at least a 25 year stock of incandescent bulbs. I'm in no hurry to make the change.

Yeah I thought I saw some 90 watt bulbs. They banned 75 & 100 but walmart found a loophole.

Almost all the lights (normally used) in my home are CFL or LED. I have had a few CFL do dead, but never break or melt. One CFL over my kitchen sink is basically on 24x7.

I keep my incandescent bulb stash next to my oil stash and my ammo.
