1.8L Ecotec

Anybody know if the 1.8 Ecotec is currently being used in the US? I see where it will be standard on the Saturn Astra this fall and was wondering about it.

Not for the 2007 model year. The current smallest displacement Ecotec is the supercharged or turbocharged 2.0L.

This 1.8 makes 140hp. Its too bad the other ecotecs weren't in this state of tune because the 2.2 would have 171hp and the 2.4 would have 186. This is assuming they were all tuned to exactly 77.7hp/litre like the 1.8 is. Maybe someday we'll see the tiny ecotecs that they have in Europe.

The last Aveo that I saw had a totally different series (not Ecotec) engine in it.

What I was saying is...GM has this 1.8 Ecotec and all we get is the Daewoo AVEO...couldn't they make something sporty and compact like the FIT and put the 1.8 in it...what Euro models get the 1.8? I know the AVEO is not Ecotec powered...

The 1.8 is a huge ecotec in europe. I would like to see a tiny chevy with a 1.2 ecotec like the ones found overseas.

GM could do a lot of things... LOL making smart choices isn't one of them apparently
