0wt oils for the winter

You can order amsoil direct to your house in any viscosity you want, including 0w30.

Alternatively, any synthetic 5w30 will pump well in the winter.

My wifes corolla gets Valvoline 5w30 conventional during the winter and it's always turned over just fine.

I can, it's just that at 3750mile OCI it becomes a bit expensive. I don't mind spending 40 bucks on oil, but with our Canadian prices, Amsoil will no doubt be more.

The reason I say 3750 OCI is due to the car still being under warranty. It's one of those "just in case" situations.

True..but whats a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 cost in Canada?

M1 is $47.99 for a 4.4L jug at Canadian Tire. I would have a hard time paying that for 6000km too.

PC 0w30 came in at $5.67/L I belive it was last time I got a price from my local depot. I took a look at the site and cannot find the depot locator either, not sure why they would have removed it. You could try this link, see what you get. I will say I think they have good products, see the PQIA test of PC Conventional. It is a little more work to get their products. Pricing isn't bad but you will never see a sale either. Conventional is less than a buck cheaper than regular store prices, synthetic about $2-$3 IIRC. 0w30 is deffinately the best deal before you concider than there aren't that many oils available here in that grade.

I have gone away from it as I picked up some GTX for $12.88/4.4L, very hard to beat!

IMO the synthetic PC 0w30 at $5.67/L is a much better deal than the conventional GTX 5w30 at $3/L. The PC is a superior product in every way, not just it's cold temp's performance. And you will get better gas mileage with the much higher VI synthetic oil (whether you can measure it or not) which will more than offset the price difference of the two oils.
In fact if the conventional oil was free I believe you'd still be financially ahead going with 0W-30. All it would take is a 1.5% improvement in fuel economy, and I'm sure you'll get at least that.

I knew you would be disapointed in me...

I will look back at my mileage numbers again, only one run in the G5 of PC but Pennzoil Ultra and Pennzoil Platinum before. Fuel economy is playing in my thought process as I am still curious about the effects on shear in relation to the VVT. I am also currious to see what a thicker oil will feel like in the G5, which the PC synthetics are in SN/GF-5 trim. Have been looking at the Duron 0w30 as well, maybe a 1-2 combo for my cars...lol

I will add that, even though it is subjective, the VVT does seem to be more active after an oil change and fuel mileage may be slightly improved as well.

I e-mailed PC to see where (if any) oil depots are around me. If not, i'm going to a gas station and getting some.

What is the cost of 1L at the local station?

There's a trick to it. Go to the PC home page, and then select Wholesale Fuel. That brings you to a search page. You check off lubricants and select city and province, and you're in business.

Nice. I was wondering if the pricing would go up with the availability of the SN/GF-5 oils but it appears not. Let us know what you think.

I may look for an alternative. I don't need a case of 12L's of this oil. Chances are that they'll just be laying around and that would be throwing money away.

I might stick to a big jug of something else that I can get localy in a 0W30 that's a good winter oil??

Unfortunately there aren't many available. Only other 0w30 I can remember seeing is Castrol Syntec and only in 1L bottles. Where in Ontario are you? This is a high HTHS(thick) oil and you would be better served by a synthetic 5w30 at average winter start up temps here, possibly even a SN conventional. Unless you are in the north and see lower temps than I do.
