0w-40 all year, or 5w-30 in winter?

Not sure about others, but when I lived in central Alaska for 10 years, when temps got below 0F we would plug in the vehicles and equipment. Block heaters, oil sump warmers, battery blankets, etc. Cars would start like a warm summer day when the temp was -50F and have good oil pressure and flow right at startup. And all i ever used was a 5w30 conventional.

I agree and have done the same. After all, how often have I used a 0w-XX? However, if one is already paying synthetic money, it doesn't hurt to be buying a 0w-XX. A 5 L jug of 0w-XX A3/B4 is the same price as a 5 L jug of any other synthetic.

Very handy if you need to do an oil change outside in those temperatures.

Didn't watch the vid but I've done a number of oil changes on cold 0W20 in my balmy winter climate. 5W seems to come out ok but I can tell a difference, it's slower. Which rates a big "meh" as I can usually think of a good reason to go inside for a few minutes while it drains.
