their reaction:
offcourse it has a hths of 3.5, it is rated a3/b4 .and minimum hths for a3/b4 is hths 3.5.

I would think it would depend on the application. If an A5/B5 oil already meets the needs, then an A3 oil might offer no benefit but reduce fuel economy.

have been running it in the Mercedes a160 ( gasoline ). for 5000 KM now. including some long top speed runs ( longest 38 min @ top speed ) on the autobahn. al go's verry well engine feels and sounds great, still no visable oil consumption in those 5000 km. 15000 km to go till next oil change.

I think, and offcourse this is just my opinion this is a great product. it protects really well @ hths 3.5 . but also has unmatched flow.
It is my opinion that a 0w20 a3/b4 is superior to let's say a a5/b5 5w30. offcourse i could be all wrong

Not one of the 0W-20 oils mentioned publishes the HTHS viscosity so I doubt very much it's as high as 3.5cP; I've never seen it.

Even Red Line 0W-20 (HTHS 3.0cP) claims to "suit the requirements for ACEA A3, and B3/B4".

It's a misunderstanding of motor oil to think you're getting the best of both worlds with a 0W-20 oil with the flow of a 8.6cSt KV100 (for example) and the protection of HTHS 3.0cP plus oil.
The HTHS viscosity trumps the KV100 spec' no matter what their KV100 spec's may be and whether one is labelled a 20wt and the other a 30wt oil.
Two oils with the same HTHS vis and the same VI will have identical operational viscosities from 150C down to at least to 0C.

I am beginning to question the logic of "ACEA A3/B4 means HTHS 3.5+". Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5w30 claims ACEA A3/B3 but I read in one place that it has an HTHS of 3.22...could've been a typo though.

Is it claimed to meet the full spec, or just one part of it?

i called fuchs, it is a typo. and called kroon again they assured me it has a hths @ 3.5

I'd suggest not a phone call but email them requesting the HTHS viscosity including the testing procedure they use as well as reconfirming the KV100 spec'.

I actually just talked to a chemist/R&D engineer at Fuchs. He said the Titan Race Pro S 5w30 is indeed 3.22.

I asked why they list it as ACEA A3/B3 if it is not 3.5.

Kroon assured me that the 0w20 really is hths 3.5 and the did not understand why i was so surprised. they said there where some more out there

For your Audi S4, I would recommend our Pro S 5W-40 engine oil. This has an inclusion of synthetic ester and top of the range additives, all dissolved in the best quality synthetic base stocks. The oil will protect your engine throughout all driving styles and all weather conditions and will “stay-in-grade” throughout its service life.

Unfortunately the figure I have quoted for the HTHS on the Pro S 5w30 is out of date. We are currently awaiting our new test result from our colleagues in Mannheim.




I did talk to one of the Silkolene (now part of Fuchs) lubrication engineers on the phone about the Titan Race series. It's also sold as Silkolene Pro 4 Plus....same exact oil. The engineer told me it is 75% ester.

I have 0w20 a3/b4 rated oil ineveything now, and I like it a lot, i will do a used oil analysis somethime to confirme it is good.
