Almost every 5w30 that I've seen having an A3 rating runs around 12.2 Cst as Audi Junkie pointed out. In other words, the are usually just on the cusp of being a 40wt. If that holds true for a virgin sample of this oil, there's some significant viscosity reduction happening. On the other hand, as Pablo pointed out, it doesn't seem to be hurting anything.

Again, a TBN would help here just to see how spent this oil really is. Nice report otherwise.

The ST viscosity number I remember seeing, for the hot cSt was something like a 10.5 or 10.6. Which means the shearing down after after almost 10,000 miles is very acceptable; Subaru asks for a 7500 mile OCI, but ST is still basically good for a NA application, with a 10,000 mile OCI. Currently at $17.50 a jug, this is still a good deal. I expect the prices to drop down to
less than $15 within a few months - I was still able to buy it at
13.50 just 2 months ago in Michigan.

Great report to see with Supertech.

This an area I don't know much about...

He drained it cold and commented that the cold drain most likely depressed flashpoint. Could it have depressed viscosity as well?

Maybe I should keep my pennzoil platinum for after the 3750 mile oil changes I'm doing during warranty, and run ST 5w30 full synthetic for now...

I knew the first time I use super tech synthetic that it was a decent product.
My bike with solid lifters was noisy from the factory with motorcycle oil.
My first oil change with the 10w 30 made quite a difference.
I change it out at 5000 miles though.

exceptional report. I hope my 08 Forester report comes back pretty like that. It's running PP 5w30 currently.

Was there *any* makeup oil during that oci?

Yea it might have affected it but very little. It still would have been well under 60 SUS
