Opinions wanted.
I have an 07 Corolla CE 1.8L
Oil cap and manual both say 5w30.
I live in Western NY. I have a 5 qt jug of Motorcraft
5W-20 semi-synthetic oil. The car has 70k miles and out of warranty.
Engine uses no oil. Is this a good oil choice for this car, this time of year?
Of course, always Puolator filters. I have no problem going out and buying
the reccomended oil but would like to use this up. Thoughts please!

Go for it....Motorcraft Syn-Blend is consideered by most on this forum.....as a very good oil. I would not lose any sleep in using it.

Have you checked to see of your 07' Corolla can use a 20W.

Once my vehicle gets up to 125K +/-....I'm considering Motorcraft for my Focus.

I believe but am not sure that this vehicle and engine may have been backspec'd to 5w-20 and 0w-20.

That engine has variable valve timing and i do believe that oil viscosity plays a big part in that working correctly so i would stick with 5w30.

What else do you need to know? 5w20 will work fine since you engine has been back-spec'd to 20 weight.

In fact, if i were you, I would use 5w20, or better yet Mobil 1 0w20 year-round, especially in Rochester, NY....where it gets awfully cold in the winter.
