06 Camry Oil Question

Denso filters are great, i've bought them in bulk via the internet before for my mazda, and even used to use them on my VW!

However these days i too have been using WIX and i think they are just about the best aftermarket filter made. I am also using a WIX air filter and i feel that it fits better then the OEM one.

My father recently bought a new Avalon to tote his golf clubs around in and inquired with the dealer about changing the oil more often than the recommended 5K intervals and they confidently told him that 5K was all it needed. The dealer he goes to uses quakersate semi-synthetic 5w30. I'll be interested to see if they eventually switch to using 5w20.

You can still safely use 5w30. European Toyota's use 5w30 oil. xW-20 is not available here..

the 2.4l 4 bangers have the 5w20 recomendation.

See that is another question. Some have alleged inside info that Toyota is switching to 5w-20 in the 06 models (certain ones). Well I called the dealer (bunch of rubes) and they have not heard any mention of this.

Yeah, that is what I keep hearing. The dealer didnt know anything about it though (does NOT suprise me with them). There is a part of me that is curious about the 20wts, the oils seem so much better "built" than the 30wt equivalents.

I would agree that if most of the trips are short and she is easy on the car a 5W30 or 0W40 from Mobil 1 is a good fit! If you think that Mobil 1 10W30 is loud though the 5W30 is not going to be any better!

If you were going to use conventional oil I would use Chevron Supreme as my first choice and then Havoline as my second choice. I would not go any longer then 3-4 months on conventional oil in a Toyota 4 cylinder with mostly short trips! Short trips are hard on oil. I have a used oil analysis on here of Mobil 1R and it was all short trips and it really used up the oil. The car in question was/is a 2003 Toyota Camry 2.4 w/5spd. The wear numbers were fine but insolubles were rather high for the low over all milage.

My mom just got an 06 camry, cap says 0W-20 5W-20, owners manual says 5w30.

Must have been in the transition phase when the cap and manual were produced at different times.

So I guess we're covered for all these grades, but the big question is can I use GC when I change mom's oil.

Does GC have the ILSAC "Energy Conserving" label that Toyota requires in the owners manual? I would probably risk my own warranty, but not my mothers.
