After analyzing a batch of GC that I ran for 5000 miles on my Honda 3.5L, Blackstone said that I should run another batch for 8000 miles then check back. I currently have around 1000 miles on a new fill of GC.

I have 10 quarts left, and that is 2 oil changes worth.

When the time comes, do you think mobil1 0w-40 will allow me to pretty much stick with 8000 mile OCI's, or go to 10k? By this time, the engine will have already been fully broken in.

PS: the TBN was 3.9 after 5,070 miles on my first run of GC.

I suggest running M1 5w30 and skipping 0w-40 for this application. The plain-jane M1 (non-EP) is a hair over 11cSt. Compare this with the SL version of M1 which was about 10.2 cSt.

I'm thinking that this oil will provide excellent service for 8000 miles.

If it works so well why do wanna switch to Mobile?

My thoughts exactly!

Auto Zone runs Castrol sales quarterly (at least). If you are looking to save a buck by purchasing the Wally World 5-quart Mobil-1 containers for a tad over $20, then just wait for the next AZ sale to arrive on GC.

burnout, I can't find your UOA. did you post it? In the honda 3.5 engine, IMHO, I wouldn't go to a 40wt in an engine that calls for 20wt so early in the engine's life. I agree with toyotansaturn. if you do switch to mobil 1, 5w30 if you can't find 5w-20

I wouldn't switch to mobil if I could, but the green GC is already discontinued. The chance of me finding more in another year is next to none. I also don't plan on trying to buy anymore online.

Then again, I just remembered that there is still GC Gold, which is still a very good oil. I MIGHT use that.

Where can I host my UOA sheet online?

I scoured every autozone within 50 miles around me. Already got everything they had. (I've been to all of them again recently, no dice)

burnout,
Would you please post the UOA?

Try a 5w-20 conventional such as Havoline, Pennzoil, Castrol, or Exxon Superflo. Anything thicker than 5w-20 in this application is overkill.

What do you mean?

Any oil that is thicker than a SAE 20 (9.5cst) is absolutely unnecessary. I don't see the reasoning behind running a thick 30wt or thin 40wt in an engine that has shown an excellent results with a 7.5-8cst oil.

OK, OK...
By that logic it's totally unecessary to use the synthetics either but I'm not gonna go there...

I was actually pondering the use of havoline 5w-20 dino in the future, and using the OLM Light. That would most likely produce excellent results, rivaling that of GC.

As I type this, I'm seeking picture hosting. Don't worry! I'll have the UOA up.

I cleaned out all the stores, and had a maximum stash of 25 quarts at one time. (Not much by some standards) I bought 5 of them from a user on this board too.

If you also haven't noticed, I do 5 quart oil changes, not 4.5 like the manual recommends.
