That may be one reason, the other is that Civic drivers are statistically as likely to cause a wreck as Mustang drivers.

I don't know what the breakup of reasons is, but I do know theft is a factor. Unfortunately the current gen with alarm and engine immobilizer doesn't seem to get a discount on that front (I know, you can always tow it away...)

All I know is all Civics seem to be pricey on insurance, and the 2 door commands higher premiums than the 4 door. Amusingly, with my previous insurance company the price to ensure my EX was about the same or possibly even more than what it would've cost to ensure an SI with 60 more hp.
