Otherwise meaning, it's perfectly suited for Kelly who's 99% about the looks of the car.

Anemic, but.....awhile (1-3 years) back was still the quickest car around $20K or less. I've never driven a 4.0 Mustang, but I assume it has some torque -- since it's a truck/SUV motor (had one in an '97 Explorer Sport with 4:10 gears).

It makes 240 ft*lbs of torque at 3500 RPM, not too bad but not great. 210 HP out of 4 liters is fairly anemic (only 52 hp/liter, not even 1 hp per cubic inch) but at least it runs on regular fuel instead of requiring premium. If you don't worry about the power per displacement or the fact that it's a V6, it is a decent value considering the Civic SI, GTI and other cars around that power point are a few thousand $$ more.

The Mustang's gas mileage suffers compared with its high strung and/or turbo 4 banger competition, though. At least by EPA rating. I'm not sure what they get in practice.

If one waits, the new twin-charged 3.5L will be available in the S197 chassis shortly......

With 2 small kids, my wife made me sell it and buy an Accord.

But at least I still have a diecast Corvette on my desk.
I sure do miss that 6 speed trans connected to a SBC with long tube headers.

Alright between this post and the 370z one I probably sound like an indecisive jerk but hey, it's just the internet.

Test drove a grey GT Premium w/ manual trans today at the local dealership. They're offering a really good deal on trade in w/ my Civic. The practical half of me says keep the Civic, it's not a lot of fun but I'm used to it and it gets good mileage. Other half says "you're only young once and technically you can afford it with no problem, and you like cars so go for it!".

What do I do?!

That, right there, is going to be my dilemma coming up later this year. I have GM Card miles, and the Jetta is still worth something. Yes... it will be a tough decision. Hmmm....

Why not keep the civic and when it's paid for (if you are making payments) then either save for a Mustang, or buy one while still keeping the Civic.

You can use the Civic as a daily driver and enjoy the Mustang for fun. There are discounts for multiple cars, etc.

Why do you have to trade? You can own two or more cars. I've had a daily beater and a nicer car for the past 17 years and I don't think I'd go back.

It's very liberating to have a "spare" car, so if something goes wrong you don't have to bum rides, see about a rental, etc.

Or maybe find an older Fox bodied Mustang and fix it up while driving the Civic until you can then trade or sell that one for a newer Mustang.

I own the Civic outright -- no payments. Not interested in having car payments really, ever.

Also not really interested in having two cars. The GF has her daily driver too, and we've got a Suburban for towing that could be used as a spare in a pinch.

Given that I'm not interested in making payments, if I was going to get another car I'd definitely only do it by cashing in the value of my current car (since it's still got some value to it). Otherwise I just wouldn't buy anything.

In any case I don't think I'm going to do anything just yet.

Why not check out an '03/04 Cobra? Take it for a rip. When you've changed your shorts, you might find the trade-in on your Civic vs the price of the Termi may put you in a very good position.....

Problem is I really, really like the current body style. What I'm going to do is wait until this fall, when the Genesis coupe's been out for a few months, when it's easier to get a test drive in the 370z, and when the 2010 Mustangs start to ship.

I'm not into the 2010 body style quite so much so if I was going to get one then late this year might be a good time to score an even better deal on a new 09 than the deals they're offering on new 08s now.

At that point I will likely give it some more thought and still decide not to trade in. But if I do decide to do it, it should be a good time to buy.

Well if you own the civic outright, sell it and buy the Mustang if that's what you want.

It doesn't hurt to talk trade. Some dealer may be hungry enough to pay stupid money for your Civic and sell the coupe your heart desires for pennies on the dollar.

You can always say no if the deal doesn't make sense.
