So my 03 P71 will hit 200,000 miles on tomorrows morning commute. I have roughly 10k miles on the current OCI (Kendall synthetic and Motorcraft filter). I upped to 5w30 because she is starting to consume a little more oil nowadays. Would it be safe in a Modular to go up to 10w-40?

20-50 is what Lincoln TownCar old-timers run in business here. Just swap upholstery and dim the dash light to protect your customer from a heart attack

Someone posted on here last year he knew a dude in Louisiana runnin' a 50/50 mix of Lucas Oil Stabilizer and motor oil in his F150 or F250......

I cant see the harm in increasing to 10w-40, especially in a hotter climate like SoCal. However, I think I would first try the 5w30 with one quart of it replaced with a quart of Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer or maybe better yet a high mileage 5w30 - Valvoline Max Life High Mileage Synthetic Blend is a good choice, as is the full synthetic - with one quart replaced with the Lucas High Mileage Oil Stabilizer. I did this in my van (listed in my sig) and it hasnt lost any oil so far like it normally would. Normally it would lose a small amount - probably around 1/8 a quart or so - in 1k miles. Hasnt lost any yet.

I dont know how many quarts that crown vic uses, but the recommended ratio for the LHMOS is 20% of the Lucas to 80% of the oil. In my van, that just happens to work out as 1 quart with the 5 quart capacity.

Why make you own secret blend? With 200k on it & being in the Southern California climate, you should be plenty safe using Valvoline Premium Blue 15w40 no need to add anything, plenty of zinc. Its a great oil. From Valvoline-

" We apologize for the delay in getting the answer for you but we have it now. Zinc is 1210 ppm and phos is 1100. Thank you very much for being our customer. We appreciate you using our products.

I had a Lincoln mkvii that I got with 65k on it - used 20/50 Castrol until it went to car heaven with 320k on it, The engine was the best thing on it everything else wore out. - similar climate (Nor Cal)

I would like to inform you that many analyses of Lucas oil stabilizer have found it is simply a viscosity thickener - and nothing more.

Many here will speak very foul of it - because it is 100% void of any anti-wear or anti-friction additives.

Don't disgrace your Crown Vic by putting that Lucas trash in there. I'm a big fan of 5w30 in these cars, as the whole 5w-20 thing was pointless.

Interesting. That seems to be a good thing to know. However, one thing I did notice while using it myself is its much stickier than regular oil is. So even if it doesnt add any AW or AF to the oil, if it makes it stick and cling to the internal surfaces better, that in of itself would help reduce wear a bit, would it not? I think one of the big points to it is to help reduce dry start wear, and it seems like it would do this.

That's news to me. I'd love to see the data backing that up.

Our county fleet got nothing but 15w40 in their Crown Vics for many years. Engine failure rates were no worse using it.
