Ok I didn't notice any coolant. I went to Walmart and I have maxlife, defy, and Mobil 1 High Mileage. Now I need to decide which one I am going to put in my Camry. Which do you think I should put in my Camry? Going to change it tomorrow morning.

Mobil 1 High Mileage. We use it in our 1MZ-FE Toyota Avalon. It is a great oil.

What about filters? I have a case of densco oem Toyota filter or fram extra guard?

Get to a NAPA store for XEREX ASIAN VEHICLE 50/50 blended...get 2 gallons @ $14 ea.

By the way, are your spark plugs tight? How is your blowby at idle? You can check this by untightening the oil cap and see if it gets shaken up a bit. It should not get blown off the valve cover. Blowby should be reduced when you give it some gas too.

I reduced my oil consumption from 1 quart/1k miles to
0.3 qts by changing my PCV, keeping my RPM low at warm up, and using a heavier oil in the same grade (SuperTech 10w40), and using OEM oil filter. I also changed my plugs to OEM.

Okay, 650 miles on the Mobil 1 High Mileage and I finally see the my oil dropped about a quarter of the way down the dip stick. I know this isn't good, I was hoping that the m1 would stop or reduce the consumption. I did notice on m timing chain side that all the components seem wet. Not sure what it is, but has anyone had an issues with the timing cover leaking oil on a 2az fe? Other wise it's running well. I did change out the pcv and new spark plugs. The cylinders were dry. Just looking for some information.

Sometimes when switching oil brands, or types, oil consumption can increase for a bit. Maybe it will take a couple runs of the Mobil High Mileage to notice a difference

Is there a way to open the timing cover to do a visual on it? It sounds like a seal leak, unless that cover has had oil drip onto it while you were checking/filling. You can either stay with Mobil 1 High Mileage for another OCI, or try a heavier HM blend like Castrol or Maxlife 5W30. Good luck to you.

How's the driving conditions? I see a quart / 1500 miles is reasonable if you drive at constant high speeds like 80mph for a log time, like 2 hours a day.

My W124 consumes half a quart every 600 miles under the above given condition but not a single drop in city drive and low speeds. And it has a 92 iron cast old engine with +209k miles on the clock.

I suggest that if there are no leaks and no smoke caused by oil consumption that you top it up when ever it gets to near half the way to minimum on the dip stick. Otherwise try simple fixes like PCV or valve stem seals. Check the plugs for the latter.

Make sure you use the right oil grade as found on the owner's manual.

Sorry, too many reply to go through.

Okay, changed the pcv valve, new plugs, no coolant leaks, but I am still burning oil after changing to High Mileage oil. I have about 800 miles on the new oil and I was a half of a quart low. Not sure what to do, I filled it up. I was really hoping that the Mobil 1 High Mileage would reduce or stop the consumption. I am starting to think it might have been silly switching to a High Mileage oil. Planning on changing around 3500 miles. I may go back to something a little cheaper or a conventional regular oil. Maybe the defy would have been a better choice. I have noticed that car does start up smoother with the M1, but I am not sure. Does it take time for the High Mileage oil to kick in, or am I being just a little optimistic.

I drive between 65-80 miles per hour about an 1 hour each day. I was a little aggressive with the throttle on the way home yesterday. I noticed that my oil went from 3/4 on the dip stick to about 1/2. I topped it off and checked the level about 1/2 quart low. Just hoping to stop this consumption from happening.

You're burning (not leaking, I gather) 1 quart per 1600 miles......

Toyo will tell you that that's well within its specifications...I believe (you can search google to confirm) Toyota would tell you that 1 quart burned per 600 mles is "normal"....

...not that you wouldn't like to get double your miles per quart...but all engines burn oil differently, and if you're not leaking, and using a quart per 1600 after trying all your options, then well, that may be your engine's thirst that needs to be quenched...

Here's an option:
I've read elsewhere here that there's a Castrol 10w-40 that has reduced oil consumption a LOT...look for "Castrol GTX HM has done"
