No more consumption?

For about the last 1.5 years, I have been using Pennzoil High Mileage 10w30 in the Jeep. I bought 4 jugs at Walmart back when they were on Rollback in Fall 2014. Consumption (or leaks

) seemed to be about a pint to half a quart every 1000-1500 miles. I don't check my oil on a schedule and just check it when I feel like it so that is why I have such a broad span of numbers. Let's just say there was noticeable consumption.

I am about 2.75k into my current OCI of Pennzoil conventional brew (see signature) and have had no noticeable consumption whatsoever.

I find it very interesting that the Pennzoil conventional seems to "consume" less. My driving habits (mostly highway) havent changed at all. Perhaps since the Pennzoil High Mileage is a syn-blend? (Words of our SOPUS rep.) Also, I am sure if the 10w40 receives the occasional GTL base stocks like the 10w30 does thus throwing out the "My Jeep drinks synthetic blends" argument.

No consumption is nice, but I do like the idea of additive replenishment too.

1) It's hard to establish a timeline from what you wrote. Proofreading is your friend.

2) If I have this right: You changed to Pennzoil conventional brew and oil consumption stopped, right?
Complete your OCI, go back to the previous oil and compare. There's not much else to do.

Apologies. .25-.5 quarts of consumption. Now that that is out of the way, I am not sure what else you're confused about.

My 2006 GM ecotec 2.2 engine tends to consume synthetic oil faster than conventional. I suspect it is getting past the rings.

Very interesting that switching to Pennzoil conventional stopped consumption. When I was running straight Pennzoil conventional10w30 in my 4.0 it was consuming and I still had my ticking (but no leaks... hmmmm). I mixed some Pennzoil High Mileage 5w30 and the ticking and consumption stopped.

I don't know if you are still having the ticking problem too, but this lead me to think that next oil change (less than 1000 miles to go) I'm going to Pennzoil High Mileage 5w30 (5qt) and (1qt) Pennzoil High Mileage 10w40.
