Hi all!! have a 95 neon SOHC ATX. im trying too remove my downstream 02 sensor, car already almost fell on me once! got [censored] lucky..its jacked up on inclined driveway. i know to let the car run, heat the sensor up..i dont know which way to turn too loosen it? under the passenger side looking towards drivers side, do i turn it left or right too remove?
any help appreciated all!!!! already not working all that well, and trying to seepd things up... i am using a crow foot socket*

If you're using a crows foot socket, you have a ratchet. Just set it up to unscrew normally (lefty loosey) before you go under the car, then don't switch the ratchet!

I'll put the PSA in to not kill yourself under there.

Also if you're going to remove it anyway, cut the wires and put a box end wrench or fully closed socket on there. More grip! 22mm or 7/8 usually, but you know the size.

always use jackstands! Are you nuts? In regards to the O2 sensor try purchasing a O2 Sensor Flex Head Wrench. They have the standard socket with a notch and have a longer handle for more man torque

GUys!! thank you all! the downstream FINALLY gave loose, i jacked the side fo the car up this time, and used jacks to support the side. The 02 in thier, was a BOSCH one, installed about 6 years ago...the sensor, is almost completely packed with black carbon!!!!
however, doing the upstream one, my crow foot socket broke

gotta get another one friday, (payday). The 02 sensor, upstream is on driverside, tip of it facing the drivers side. ....Would i turn towards me front of car with rachet, or push it away too loosen it?

Anyone? regarding the upstream sesnor..its on the drivers side, yesterday trying to remvoe it, i broke my 02 cow tool, bought another last night..wanna do it today. i was pulling it, towards me ( front of car). do i turn it towards firewall or me??

You can figure this out Ziggy. We've all been there, upside down and/or backwards.

Here's a good way to figure it out. Standing beside the car, imagine the sensor in your head. Place it in the same orientation as it really is (in your imagination.) But imagine all the other stuff isn't there. Now imagine your right pointer finger is the sensor and put it in the same direction as the sensor really is (imagine the tip of your finger has the threads and the wire travels up your arm. Now, to loosen your imagined sensor, it has to turn counter-clockwise. This will be moving your right thumb from up-to-down if you imagined your finger is the sensor. (Note: if your right thumb is pointed up, your wrist can only travel in one direction to get pointed down... the other way is really awkward for me... I assume it is for you.)

Now, spin your imagined sensor around and around in your head. (It really helps to imagine more than two complete revolutions.) Keep picturing that spinning direction as you move from the standing position to where you have to go to get a wrench on it. The spinning directions will stay the same for the sensor where-ever you move... you just have to remember. If you get confused, stick out your right pointer finger and refresh your memory.

By the way, you can call this the 'right-hand screw loosening rule', but its not the same thing as the more famous 'right hand rule.'

Come on, just get a ratchet and have it on the removal mode. How difficult could it be to figure out the direction? Otherwise buy a very expensive ratchet which has "ON" "OFF" printed on it and put it "OFF" setting.

Yes, ratchets can be very helpful. I'm still looking for a breaker bar with an On/Off switch though.
