I installed it in a 2003 Odyssey last October along with a AISIN TKH-002 in a 2006 Odyssey a few weeks later. Both are working perfectly 12 months later. However, I did take the pre-emptive measures to install the shim to preclude the potential for the notorious "warble" some claim could develop.
You should search for the other BITOG threads discussing the AISIN water pump warble issue, starting with this long one involving a Honda Pilot with the J35 engine.
RA doesn't ship parts. They use wholesale companies to do that. Those same companies ship to parts stores.
It is possible that someone returned a part they had swapped with a counterfeit. That seems more likely with a spark plug than a timing belt kit. I suppose anything is possible now days.
If you search the address on the shipping label - it will say "Rock Auto Returns" but the actual ship to address will be the warehouse it left. At least you could see that its a legit supplier. However a lot of warehouses I think use RA as the way to dump there returned or old parts.
In this case, the pump and idlers are stamped as made in Japan. I just wasn't sure if the tensioner is supposed to look like that. If I look carefully, I can imagine that the white lettering looks like smudged 'aisin'. Can anyone who has bought a Aisin kit from Rockauto or elsewhere confirm if the tensioner looks like the one pictured in my box?
Reply from AISIN "Hi,
We received below update from our product department.
Yes, this tensioner is an Aisin product. The white stamp does say “Aisin”, but it appears it has been smudged making it difficult to read. But the customer can be assured that item is a valid Aisin product as well.
Hope this information helps you.
Regards"
That is reassuring. Frankly I am quite pleased at their quick response.
Thanks to all who responded. I believe that the consensus was that the box was a legit product.
Scheduled to drop the van off to the mechanic tomorrow.
