My girl has a 2001 VW Passat 1.8 turbo 5mt. She lives in a suburb of Washington DC with cold snowy winters and hot humid summers. She drives about 10,000 miles a year, mostly highway and suburban, not city, streets. She is not afraid to use the turbo to squirt in and out of traffic. She will wind it up through the gears but doesn't hit redline. As an Amsoil Prefered Customer I checked their web site and found they recommended Series 2000 75w90 for the transmission. I confirmed this with an Amsoil Tech. I put in the Series 2000 75w90 trans fluid and she said it shifts fine, better than before when it had VW's own trans fluid. To me it shifts fine for a German car...it doesn't come close to my TL with GMSFM. To date there have been no problems. I checked the Amsoil web site a few days ago and it looks like they made some changes. When I double checked their fluid recommendations for her Passat I saw that they no longer list the series 2000 75w90. They now recommend ALU 80w90 gear lube. Does anyone have any experience with this product? Can anyone suggest any other trans fluid? I'm looking for different options. Thanking you in advance...
