2019 Subaru Crosstrek 6MT transmission fluid

If the factory subaru oil was doing fine, I would probably go back to that unless there's a specific fluid that's known to work on a subaru forum. Trying to figure out one that's "better" can take a long time as they don't publish the specs that matter for a mtx to work well?

Problem is finding it. If you find it, it's in a 5 gal pail which is expensive and inconvenient. I have checked with dealers nearby and they wouldn't sell me anything. One said just go to Canadian Tire and buy whatever they have.

I would use 75w90 in the rear. Not 75w80

Might keep what's in the rear. If not, might get the 75w-85 from Amsoil. The guy who sells it is close by.

I contacted the shop that resell motul and they also sell for the same price I found on amazon, 60$/L. At that price, it's getting expensive.

The summitracing site seem finicky for canaidans. Under the product, there's a restricted icon with this mention:

I would leave the rear differential. This is the MTF in both manual transmissioned vehicles we have. Great this morning at -20C.

I thought it was the other way around - that is, that GL-4 fluids didn't contain the sulfur additives that corrode the yellow-metal synchronizers.

Up 42 hours?! That'll do it.

For front you need original oil or equivalent spec (75w80 GL5). 75w90 is not recommendable for normal driving or cold temps (poor shifting and fuel efficiency).
For rear you can keep actual.

About to help a friend change his on another 2019 Crosstrek. Where did the 75w80 come from? The owner's manual and service manual both state 75w90.

I've had good luck with Gear 300 in my Forester so that's what I'm having him buy, but I don't want him to hear his wife complain about the shifter feeling worse.

75w80 GL5 comes from original spec Subaru Extra MT. Manual and other sites offers 75w90 GL5 as alternative.
