Michelin or any tire code date advice

Just a heads up...I purchased a set of Michelin tires for my Jeep Grand Cherokee online thru Costco a few weeks ago during a pretty good Michelin sale. I contacted the store for installation and they said if I could wait a week or so they'd be happy to install them with an appointment, since...

Battery question - CCA vs Reserve capacity

I'm pro-actively replacing the original Panasonic battery in my 2005 4Runner. After 8 years, I think it’s time, plus it’s getting chilly here at night. I go to the auto parts store last night and they offer two batteries, 24F (750cca/130res-cap) vs. 27F (710cca/165res-cap). They tell me the 24F...

    Floor jack advice

Hi all, I’m in the process of buying a new floor jack for doing oil changes, tire rotations and general maintenance. I’m torn between the lightweight aluminum and the (really) heavy steel models. I’m looking for some opinions of what you guys use and like (or dislike). I’m thinking the heavier...

    4Runner 2010 or 2011

Just looking for some input, good or bad, on a 2010 or 2011 Toyota 4Runner. It’s time to replace my 2005 4Runner and I’m considering a newer model just because I had good luck with the previous one. I haven’t driven the new 4Runner so I don’t have much info to go on. They seem a lot different...

Briggs & Stratton Professional series engines

I’m in the process of buying a premium lawn tractor with a Briggs and Stratton Professional series engine and I keep hearing it’s a entry level (whatever that means) engine. I am used to either Kohler’s or Kawasaki’s in this type of equipment. Does anyone know how many hours this engine is rated...

    Air compressor outdoor winter use?

Is it OK to run an oil-less air compressor outside in the cold weather (0-30 degrees)? I have been using it in the garage lately and it seems like its making some strange noises…could be my imagination. Any thoughts?

5w-20 instead of 5w-30...wasn't paying attention!

Friday mistake number #7…went to WMart and purchased a 5 qt jug of Pennzoil Platinum for the oil change on my 2005 Toyota 4Runner V6. Went home did my oil change, dumped the 5 qt jug + ½ gt of 5w-30 M1 to top things up. Then I looked at the Pennzoil jug and realized it was 5w-20 not 5w-30…d’oh...

    Tool Sets

Hi all, I’m looking for a tool set, specifically a ratchet and socket set, for my son. I’ve got my eye on a Stanley black chrome set. It seems reasonably priced ($69) for a 69 piece set. The thing that stands out is it has the easy to read numbers on the sockets (showing my age). Anyone have any...

    Toyota vs. Napa/Wix oil filter

I just did an oil change on my 05 Toyota 4Runner (first time for me) and was wondering if there are any significant performance concerns between the Toyota oil filter (90915-YZZD3) and the NAPA Gold/Wix (1348) due to the height difference and or sealing gasket? The NAPA filter is a little...

    4Runner 05 propeller shaft lube?

Does anyone have any advice on what type and how much lube for the propeller shaft on a 05 4runner? I would think I could use the same grease (lube) for the u-joints. I think I would just put a couple pumps of grease into the propeller shaft…would that be adequate? Any thoughts or advice?

    Honda Pilot 3.5 VTEC engine

Hi, I’m looking at a ’05 or ’06 Honda Pilot to replace my old and very faithful Explorer. I’ve never owned a Honda and I thought I’d poll the audience before I dive in. I’ve been told that the Honda 3.5 is a pretty bulletproof engine. I think the only weak link in this vehicle seems to be the...

    Mercon V in my 97 Ford p/s?

I asked this question at the end of another thread, sorry. I just refilled my 97 Ford Explorer p/s with Mercon V thinking it was regular Mercon. 97 Explorer oil advice?

    Toyota Sienna oil/filter opinions

I just purchased a low mileage, 2001 Toyota Sienna with the supposedly "sludge producing" engine. At 27K all the service has been done by a Toyota dealer and the engine is sludge free...as far as we know. I do all my own maintenance, so it'll be getting Pennzoil or Chevron 5w-30 with a NAPA...
