I wouldn't sweat the Mobil 1 0w-40 too much. I use Mobil 1 High Mileage in my '95 540i. It's easier to find and cheaper than the 0w-40 and I suspect that it works just as well or better.

We have available Kendall GT-1 5w40 for $4.99 a quart locally. It's BMW LL-01. Cheaper than either GC or the Mobil 0w40.

I agree with the above, you don't want a 50wt. oil in that V8.

How long an interval are we talking about? This oil wouldn't be considered a "long drain" product in any case. I also doubt Lubro-Moly would have enough "moly" to clog up a filter. And would the filter even trap the moly additive? I think the unnamed BMW forum members have a picture of Arco...

You will probably be pleased. I've owned several BMWs with engines from the M20 through M60 and all have run better when freed from the bonds of 50 wt. oil. I'm considering the Lubro-Moly for my wife's '90 535 in place of the Mobil 1 10w40HM so I'll be interested in what you think.

COSTCO or Bridgestone/Firestone. Lately the latter. The store on Lancaster Drive has excellent service.

High mileage solution for what? 83k is hardly a problem in and of itself. Something else going on?
