Going to try Liqu-Moly mos2 10w40 semi synthetic in my old bmw 525i with 188,000 miles.

I hope it is as good as my current fill with valvoline 20w50 Maxlife blend which is smooth and quiet. I have high hopes. Quality german oil in a german car. :)

You will probably be pleased. I've owned several BMWs with engines from the M20 through M60 and all have run better when freed from the bonds of 50 wt. oil. I'm considering the Lubro-Moly for my wife's '90 535 in place of the Mobil 1 10w40HM so I'll be interested in what you think.

+1 ken. A good 40wt is perfect for BMWs, no need for the classic selection of a 20w-50.

BTW, I picked up 6 liters for $36.87 (including 6% KY state tax) at my local NAPA store. They stock Lubro-Moly products.

is there a concern with Moly oils over solids clogging oil filters on long change intervals?

There was a conceren noted on one of the BMW forums.

How long an interval are we talking about? This oil wouldn't be considered a "long drain" product in any case. I also doubt Lubro-Moly would have enough "moly" to clog up a filter. And would the filter even trap the moly additive? I think the unnamed BMW forum members have a picture of Arco Graphite in their heads as they're doing their speculating.

I agree, perhaps they are just speculating. I usually keep synthetic in for 4,000 to 5,000 miles then drain and fill with a new filter. I really have not worries in that regard.

BTW, I did use the Lubro Moly Mos2 "additive" for the last 1,500 miles on theis fill. So I will take a look at my filter when I drain and fill.

I have not had any issues with the LM 10W-40MOS2 clogging any filters on my 01 Volvo since I started using it. I have been very pleased with the reduction in noise and smoother operation of the engine which is high mileage at 195K miles. Here is a picture of my filter after last oil change; no caked on MOS2 or any other weird issues on 4K OCI. I am moving all oils to Lubro Moly after this experience as I have been pleased with the oil! The filter is a K&N also for reference.

I happened to pick some of this stuff up for my last oil change.

Been running it all summer and so far so good.
Im right at 5k miles now and will likely change it out very soon.(lots of hwy miles on this run so Im not to concerned if I go some more)

It did seem to quiet things down a bit and maybe even slightly better mpg than before.

99 M3 (s52) fyi.

For the last few years I have been wondering if the Lubro moly additive that costs $4.50 ish at NAPA does anything noticeable?

The additive did make both my volvo and buick run more smoothly; I would say the additive is less effective than the 10W-40 MOS2 oil. It also seems to be more effective for higher mileage engines from my experience. Definitely worth a shot for $4.50 if you are curious.
