High silicon in 99' Crown Vic 4.6L modular.

When I had my 2001 Crown Vic, my silicon always read high as well, and I changed the oil (M1) every 7,500 - 12,000 miles. I never worried about the silicon as there was no corresponding increase in any wear metals. Never seemed to cause any problems...

Anybody have any expeience with Extended OCI in 351 W

FYI, 1991 was the last year that the 351W was used in he Crown Vic and only police package vehicles got them. The 1993 only had the 4.6 SOHC. As for OCI's, my 2001 Crown Vic does fine with 7,500 to 10,000 intervals with the same filter. M1 5W-30 oil and filter. Happy motoring.

In the lovely state of NY, who has...

I think those dotted lines are messed up. In the image above, the car heading east (toward the right) would be changing lanes in a intersection in order to go straight ahead.

Also, any comments on the viscosity? It seems to have thickened out of 30WT range...

    10,085 miles on M1 5W-30 2001 Crown Victoria

The columns are the OCIs that I've used for the past five oil changes with the leftmost one being the current 10,085 mile test.

Gas Mileage down...could be winter formulation of gas, not Mobil DC

Don't they only do that in urban areas?

    Tire pressure??

I notice a lot of people look at the sidewall and assume that the pressure listed is the "correct" pressure. The psi listed on the sidewall is the max cold pressure . You usually don't want to inflate your tires to the max cold pressure. I use the 75% rule. That is, 75% of the max cold pressure.

Any advance to use Syn ATF in power steering?

I disagree. I use Mobil 1 in my 2001 Crown Vic's PS and I notice it is much easier to turn the wheel on those cold mornings. Other than that, though, I don't think there's a huge difference. Oh, yeah, extended drain interval.

Excessive oil consumption, Foird 4.6L engine

It's the valve seals. I had a 1993 Grand Marquis with the same problem. Having the valve seals replaced for you will probably run you $500 to $800. You can do it yourself but it's a weekend job for the average DIY-er. I'd have the work done if I were you, since it will prevent/forestall numerous...

    2001 Ford Crown Vic 4.6L, M1 5W-30, 6100 miles

Does that the coolant pipe run under the intake manifold/valley cover? No. Thank God that one usually doesn't break until well past 200K and even then some people may never have to replace it. The coolant crossover is the pipe that goes between either side of the intake manifold. It's located...

    2001 Ford Crown Vic 4.6L, M1 5W-30, 6100 miles

At 200K, the oil is just getting warm. I am, however, waiting for the dreaded intake manifold coolant crossover pipe to crack. Should happen between 70K & 90K.

Shifting to neutral at stop light . . . Does this help reduce wear on a AT

On my 2001 Crown Vic, the idle speed goes up noticeably when in neutral, the same as when in park. You should use more gas when you put it in neutral at a stop light.

    High Mileage Recommendation

The early 4.6L from ford used to burn oil through the valve seals like a biotch. I know, I had a 1993 Grand Marquis, and after 100,000 miles, the seals were rock hard and I would have to add a quart every 700 miles. I would lean to the heavier weight oils (maybe Castrol Syntec 10W-40, or Mobil 1...
