Anyone using Supertech HM right now?

I am using it in two vehicles and "like it". I have a Toyota Tacoma 4 banger with 185k that was noisy. I put in the HM and she's quiet as a mouse. Could there be some moly in it? For the price, oh, yeah, I think it's a keeper. Mike

    New Supertech oil

When I put ST Long Mileage into my Toyota Tacoma, '99 with 182k on it, I figured it would start knocking. I had used various oils then got sold on Havoline. It stopped the knocking immediately. Is that good in itself? Or, just good for the emotions? I changed the Havoline a week ago and fully...

    New Supertech oil

Today I saw a new Supertech oil for vehicles over 75000 miles. It was in 5 quart bottles that were reddish if I remember correctly. Price was about 6.55 for 5 quarts. Comes in 10-30 and 10-40 viscosities. Anybody with some insights into this oil? Mike

4700 RPM all day on 5W20?

My Toyota Corolla runs in 4th speed on the automatic trannie at 2100 rpm at 65 mph. ****, 45-4700 sounds incredibly high. I'd have thought that some trannie thingie would allow for running at 2500 rpm rather than 4700 or so...I am rather amazed.. Mike

    99 Maxima SuperTech 10W30 Syn 3k mi

Folks have gotten so obsessive compulsive on this website they figure cheap is bad, expensive is good, and hunches and feelings have as much credibility as the lab analyses. When the oil analysis comes out in favor of Super Tech full synthetic being real good, they say, "can't be, the lab tech...

best dino for lots of short trips?

It's pretty obvious that people searching for the perfect oil have but one possibility. I'd install 5 or 6 oil sumps in the vehicle and have a selective switch that would allow the engine to use each oil when a master sensor determined that the oil viscosity was 0.000127 Angstrom microns below...

    Vastly decreased tappet noise

No, my pickup is in a state of Kozmic Karma emanating from the knowledge it has reached that state of Harmonious Lubricity that is often sought but only delivered when an individual finally reaches a state of oneness with BobIsTheOilGuru. I suggest that tuning in this website should be...

    Vastly decreased tappet noise

Sorry I used the three letter word which was correctly starred out in my message. I must have been thinking of Kwanzaa when I wrote the note. Mike

    Vastly decreased tappet noise

I, too, ask the question if quieter is better. However, I'd be surprised if quieter isn't better. And, I sorta feel that when I put the new Havoline into my engine that the viscosity was certainly "heavier" than the ST synthetic which I believe is a PAO formula despite the fact the ST was 10W-30...

    Vastly decreased tappet noise

I've been running Super Tech 10W-30 oil in my '99 Tacoma for about a year. It ran good, I guess, but I was getting a fair amount of tappet noise over the last 6 months or so. After reading some blurbs on this website, I changed over to 5W-30 Havoline, and voila!, no noise. None. What happened...

Left hand doesn't know what the right hand does

I am incredibly boggled that you can't decipher what I wrote. Amazed... I referred, if you read, that other sections on the bob is the oil guy, are the sites of concern. Bypass sites, etc. I find this amazing, utterly amazing. How many other sites do you know that discuss bypass filters...

Left hand doesn't know what the right hand does

It's rather interesting to see that posters in other Bob's oil sites are using really short OCI for Mobil 1 and other good synthetics. Like, don't they ever read the bypass sites comments on filters and extending those intervals? And, there's lots of hype and questionable hypotheses being aired...

    Bypass filters,,,,,my take

Airborne Ranger, I used magnets to hold the bypass filter in my Toyota Tacoma 4 banger. My Frantz metal cannister with the TP in it allows magnetic attachment to a corner of the engine compartment very easily and functionally. You can use the ceramic magnets you get from most any store, like the...

Bypass filters vs. using the best modern oils

mjo's comments proves nothing, either, just hot air. Ugly3 says you "may go 40% longer with a bypass filter". All unsupported baloney, guys, my statements are insignificant but yours are not? Just whom are we kidding, guys? Give me something to go on, not just your suppositions, guesses...

Bypass filters vs. using the best modern oils

I met a very knowledgeable oil salesperson who ran a Camry 425k without using a bypass filter. He's a petroleum engineer by training and felt a bypass filter was overkill. Does his getting huge mileage out of his car disprove the value of a bypass filter, or are there other benefits to using a...

Will TP Fall Apart in Oil?

I've used Scott TP and it stays together very well, and there has been no concern on my part regarding it falling apart. Low pressure in the oil stream is the likely reason for its coherence. Mike

I returned my sucky Falken and got Potenza G-009s, thank God!

I was very concerned about the shimmy/squirm on my last Corolla using the Goodyear Integrity's. On the turnpikes, being around the propwash of a trailer truck made me nervous, scared, and hyper. I did not opt for the Falkens, but got the Goodrich Traction T/A H rated tires and, voila, the 2 ply...

    BfGoodrich traction t/a

The BFG Traction T/A, H rated, is the best tire I have ever used. I put them on my new Corolla. They are firm, tight, solid, hold the road great and mileage appears like it will be very good. I studied extensively prior to the purchase. Most tires have a few raps against them. The H rated tires...

    Mounting Frantz bypass unit

Nothing fancy on the magnets. I bought some ceramic magnets, 1.50 each, at Home Depot. They are about 3/4" by 1.5". Likely about a quarter inch thick. They have a good pull and you can put the filter cannister most anywhere. I chose to put it in the right rear corner of the engine compartment...
