Best performing oil for track use - Camaro SS

Porsche a40 xw-40/Dexos R in colder temps and if not running R compound or slicks. 15w-50 works great (edit: and cheaper) for those hotter conditions with more lateral g's. I see 275F oil temps every track event. Its the corners that you need the thicker viscosity especially with R compound...

    New Mower, oil recommendations?

Mobil1 15w-50 on a 1995 Tecumseh 3.5 hp 20" mower. Hit rocks other stuff that stops the engine at full tilt. Runs great. Changed once annually.

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

2004 Land Rover Discovery 176K. Mostly 5w-40 M1 Turbo Diesel Truck or Rotella 5w-40. Runs great, some oil loss mostly from leaks I would say. About 1/2 quart over 6 mos of light use these days. Changed twice a year since new.

Test drove a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the high output 3.0L twin turbo

The larger brakes mean reduced fade and consistent performance after hard use so that they are reliable under severe duty, not necessarily shorter stopping.

    Mobil 1 FS 0w40 vs 5w40 vs 5w50 vs 15w50 in a modified LT4 in warmer climate??

Low volatility is a concern with the direct injection and forced air. The new Dexos R Mobil 1 X2 looks right in 5w-50. I use 15w-50 on the track and will leave it in during warmer months (car not a daily driver). Someone posted good UOA with same pattern. Track oil temps are consistently ~270F...

Can thicker oil cause more wear?

I trust the manufacturer recommendations much more these days. With product mixes that have EVs, mainstream turbocharging success, and flattened CAFE requirements there is less pressure to meet fleet averages. Engine and oil technologies are more mature. If the engine needs a 0w-40, like some...

    Lets talk about new vehicles

Chevy Equinox. We have a '20. I was surprised - it does everything with no fuss. Cruises at 80-85 calmly with great ride/handling. Roomy, good visibility, easy to get in/out of. The 2.0L turbo has plenty of power. AWD, heated cooled seats and moonroof. We just use it without thinking.

    2021/2022 Subaru Outback reliability

Drive one. CVTs are just boring as it gets to me, even if they simulate shifts. The Outback is kind of a cool lifestyle car otherwise and the awd is useful on the street during snow, etc. But, there are a lot of options in that price range with AWD. Lots of crossover SUVs that have the taller...

    LS430 - Sludge advice

K&N filters that are oiled can foul the MAF, yep.

    LS430 - Sludge advice

Also recommend using OEM paper filter. The air filter massively affects contaminants in the oil. Otherwise just change the oil and filter at conservative intervals, like 2500 or 3k miles is what I would do initially for the first few rounds. The filter will filter. Transmission - is there a...

Spotted cracks on my daughter in law’s front Dunlop tires

My guess is the cracks were from a pothole impact with low tire pressures, maybe in the winter. Good you replaced them.

Thin vs Thick Discussion Chapter 1

I read this post (mostly) and I think its missing the point of Ferrari's oil recommendations. A lot of Ferrari drivers use their cars on the track. Ok maybe they drive to the track. Some Ferraris are not sold as street legal. Point is that oil is not just about flow when cold. You need viscosity...

A Case For Not Going 10,000 Miles on an OCI

Great debate. Do what makes economic sense. No more no less. Capitalism, I love it.

GM has ruined the looks of the new Corvette so bad I now like the Camaro better

Guys this is a classic case of styling preference. Ferrari has the same problem. That is some folks like the long hood GT look and some like the purpose built mid engine exotic.

    Mobil 1 15W50, 6k mi OCI, 15.6k mi, C7 Corvette Z06

Interesting report - thanks. I think I will use 15w-50 most of the year here in Austin. On your misfires. I think its oil in the intake. Need a catch can. Not as straightforward of an install with the LT4. I am weighing for my LT4. With my LS3 Camaro, the catch can cleaned up the pop pop when...

2018 Raptor, Best Engine Oil Decision

Simple: HTHS 3.5 or above. Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w-30 Dexos2 rated (Wallmart), Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 or any other ACEA A3 oil.

    Mobil 1 15W50, 6k mi OCI, 21.6k mi, C7 Corvette Z06

Well I was a little concerned in colder weather but this is a good report. Changing my oil to Mobil1 15w-50 per the manual for track use in a couple weeks. Looks like I can leave it in.
