    Mobil 1 5W30 High Milage 96 Silverado 4,969 miles

The truck just recently started it's oil leaking nonsense. It never used oil before, but now is leaving oil in the driveway. At first, I expected the rear main seal. Now I believe it is coming from one of the valve covers. Its hard to tell because the whole back of the engine is oily, but I will...

    Mobil 1 5W30 High Milage 96 Silverado 4,969 miles

I agree it does not help with detecting wear, but coolant is what I was looking for. These trucks had a problem with that and was the only reason I had one done. This truck always had good reports even without make up oil when it was newer, so I have no reason to expect this has changed. I will...

    Mobil 1 5W30 High Milage 96 Silverado 4,969 miles

Here goes! My truck has been great and I just wanted to give it a check. On this oci, i did a lot of four wheeling in the mountians on unmaintained dirt roads for hunting season, a trip to ohio and back with a 5000lb boat. (little over 500 miles)I need to see what is leaking, because it leaks a...

    Cooper AT3s

Our camp is in the western corner of Perry County in the Tuscarora state Forrest. It's not Potter or Tioga, but its lots of woods much closer to home! How are the lockers working for you? Since I posted, we had one night where about a 1/4" of ice formed on the road. I was going up a hill when I...

    Cooper AT3s

I just bought a set of these at3s for my 96 Silverado. So far, they seem to do fine. They are comparable to my Cavalier sport kings I had before, but with a much quieter ride on the high way. They seem to have decent traction going forward, but a little slippery from side to side. Deer season...

    Valvoline Maxlife 5W-30 3,898 miles 96 Silverado

Hi, sorry for the lack of info. I didn't have much time to type this morning. The truck has the 5.7 350 Vortec. Driving is every week, 5 miles to work each way. I go back home at lunch every day to do work around the place. The oil never warms up the whole way by the time I arrive. Then, on...

    Valvoline Maxlife 5W-30 3,898 miles 96 Silverado

Hi, This is my most recent UOA for my 1996 Chevy Silverado. This sample is Valvoline Maxlife SN 5W-30. The previous fills were PP 5W-30 SM. I switched to Valvoline to try and slow the leaking rear main seal until I can fix it. Let me know what you think!

    90 Something Ford F150

Hey everyone, I have a quick Question. I was just given a work truck to take care of, a 90 something ford F150. I have to pull a lot of weight with it so it is used very hard. It has a 300 straight six, and is at times floored for extended periods just to get the hunk of [censored] up a nearby...

    PP 5w-30 1996 Chevy Silverado 3,141 mi.

The oil was very dark when I sampled it at the time, maybe it was cleaning? the oil in the truck now has 2,000 on it an still looks almost like new! For this next analysis I topped up with PP instead of the Maxlife blend. I don't know if that will change anything. I guess my next analysis will...

    PP 5w-30 1996 Chevy Silverado 3,141 mi.

I don't know what the truck had fixed or replaced when I bought it, the price was right so I wasn't too concerned. I haven't change anything under the hood except for the brake booster! I did not run any injector cleaner for this Oci. I had run some a few changes before, however. I sampled the...

    PP 5w-30 1996 Chevy Silverado 3,141 mi.

Here is my first UOA for my pickup. I did this mainly to check for a leaking gasket so common in these engines. I thought the wear looks good, but I am concerned about the amount of sodium. I bought this truck used, ran it on 2 oci's of Kendal Syn blend, then Valvoline Syn blend, gtx, 2 Mobile 1...

    ATF fluid change help

Ok, it sounds easy enough to change the fluid in the torque converter as well. My question is, can I change the pan fluid and filter, refill the fluid lost from the pan, disconnect the oil cooler line and start my engine until it stops pumping fluid or I get air bubbles? Then I can refill the...

    ATF fluid change help

I need some help performing my first ATF fluid change on my 96 chevy pickup. I have plenty of Valvoline Maxlife ATF fluid and a filter kit for the truck. (Pro-King if it matters)The fluid has 35k on it now, and still looks ok and doesn't smell burnt but it isn't new either... Anyhow, would I be...

    RTV Sealant and Synthetics?

I just got off of the Amsoil Online Product Applications Guide and found that they claim synthetic oils will eat RTV sealant in applications such as the rear differential. Is there any merit to this? I was planning a fill of Lucas synthetic 80W-90 and use RTV to seal the rear. Is this not a good...

    Help with 96 Silverado

I need some help deciding differential fluid for my 96 Silverado. I have to drain my rear differential to replace the pinion pin retain bolt that I have a feeling is working its way loose. I looked around the shop and all I have is 3 quarts of Lucas synthetic 80w-90 gear oil. I know Lucas gets...

    70 Ford Galaxy...

Thank you everyone for your help. I told him to go ahead and put the oil in. I think he is going to try Rotella T next oil change. I'm glad this oil will not cause this engine any harm, it's too nice of a car to be worrying about internal wear. I will post pics of his cars Wednesday night after...

    70 Ford Galaxy...

Hi Everyone, I need some help. My grandfather wants to know if he is using a proper oil for his mint 1970 Ford Galaxy. It has an original big block and the car only has 49,000 miles!(I think it's a 390 but there is a chance it's a 410)He really never paid any attention to what oil he uses except...

    ford or chevy?

Both are good trucks. If it was my money, I would have to buy a Chevy. They always were more reliable and broke less often than the F150's we had around the house. Plus I still have a bad taste in my mouth for fords after a transfer case went out in the mountains. Not a fun walk down in a foot...
