    AmsOil S2K 20w50 98 LS1

My engine was not built to factory specs. It is not a all out race engine either thou. It has forged rods and forged pistons on a refurbished stock crank, ported heads and a LS6 cam. The builder told me that it was built to looser tolerances than stock. Is this enough to make the 20W50 a good...

    AmsOil S2K 20w50 98 LS1

I just got my first UOA back on my rebuilt LS1. The motor had 1,300 miles on it when I put the S2K in. I ran the S2K for 3,478 miles. Looks to me like things are ok with it. Here it is for comment: Mike

    AmsOil S2K 20w50 98 LS1

Interesting reply. I went with the 20w50 based on recomendations from here. I'm not opposed to running the 0w30 if it is the right choice. I run open track events thou not AutoX. Typically Willow Springs or Cal Speedway.

    AmsOil S2K 20w50 98 LS1

I have no idea where they came to that conclusion. Perhaps the S2K racing is basicaly the same as their diesel oil. I did run 1,000 miles of dyno oil before switching over to the S2K.

    Why is Amsoil RED?

It just kinda felt funny pouring stuff that looked a fair amount like ATF into the crank case.

    Why is Amsoil RED?

Thanks. Actually I signed up just before I started reading this site. Wish I would have found this site first. My upline is like a hundred years old and doesn't care/know much about high performance stuff. He is convenient since he is in town and he stocks a fair amount of stuff. Think I would...

    Why is Amsoil RED?

I just got a case of S2000 20W50 in one gallon bottles. I was kinda freaked out to see it was red like ATF. Anyone know why it's red? Mike

    Which Amsoil in rebuilt LS1?

Ok, I missed checking the box this time around.

    Which Amsoil in rebuilt LS1?

Speaking of pressure what kind of pressure do you see on the stock gauge at hot idle? Mine seems to be around 20 most the time at idle. Not sure what it used to be as I didn't pay that close of attention. By the way is there a way to have this board email me when a thread has a new post? I...

    Which Amsoil in rebuilt LS1?

I am not certain myself, but he did say the pistons had a bit more clearance than stock. Which would further reinforce the idea of the S2000 20w-50. I want to add a Accusump and aftermarket pressure and temp gauges as soon as funds permit. (likely a cooler too)

    Which Amsoil in rebuilt LS1?

Thanks for the imput guys. So run dino oil for another 1000 miles or so? I will be taking it in for dyno tunning after 500 miles or so, should I wait till I put in syn to have the dyno tunning done? Pablo, you don't think 20w50 is to thick for street use? If I was still going to the track 1 -...

    Which Amsoil in rebuilt LS1?

The shop said it has a "break in oil" in it and to change it out in a couple of hundred miles. I ran Mobil1 in it before when it spun a rod bearing. I don't think the oil was the problem. Mark blames the stock rod bolts and the 5,000 - 6,000 miles on road race courses in the last year or so...

    Which Amsoil in rebuilt LS1?

Well I picked my car up tonight. I'm planning on running Amsoil in it. Should I run the Series 2000 0W30, Series 2000 20W50(I think this is to thick.), ASL 5W-30 or ATM 10W-30? I just had the motor rebuilt 10/1000 over (IIRC min over bore) forged pistons, forged rods, stage 1 heads, LS6 Cam. I...

    Dealership.....I just can't win!

Just another example of why I hate dealers. The only way any of them stay in business is that most all of them are the same.

    LS1 Break In Questions

The Camaro is one of the best handling straight axle cars you will find for the money. Since I don't have a money tree that's what I drive. You can make a Fox body Mustang faster but it will cost you $15K - $20K in handling mods to do it. I am 99.99% sure the rear window on the Z06 opens up (as...

    LS1 Break In Questions

So that would be a E30 right? Nice cars. I think the LS1 is a remarkable engine if you consider all factors (cost, output, overall reliablity). I likely put 6,000 track miles on my car in the last year. I think that on a 63,000 mile engine is pretty good. I don't think you will see many pro race...

    LS1 Break In Questions

You don't mention what kind of car it is? Beating the crap out of a car on the street is nothing like driving 9/10 - 10/10 on a race track. If you think it is, you have obviously never driven on a road race course at speed.

Very pleased with M1 during HPDE

I always changed before each track event. So for this last year that was about every month and 1000 - 1500 miles. I think that might have been over kill.

    LS1 Break In Questions

I don't know that I would go sofar as to call the LS1 crap. I had 63,000 miles on my car and have treated it like a race car for the last year. Doing that on most any production engine is asking for trouble. Maybe you could getaway with it with a Porsche, but then again I can do several more...
