    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

That was an interesting read and I know it’s somewhat common for these engines. I’ve seen the threads on Lotustalk about using diesel oil, etc to reduce cam wiping. Mobil 1 0w-40 has ~1000ppm zinc and phosphorus according to Mobil. I’ve seen VOA’s on 5w-30 Redline that show anywhere from 800ppm...

    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

I definitely agree with that. I have the last of the Redline in the car now and don’t plan on buying more. I’ll do the UOA just to get another datapoint with Redline but the Mobil 1 0w-40 did have a very good UOA in terms of wear metals. Any idea about the valve noise with the M1 that I...

    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

I change my oil myself. Purchased a 12 qt case 2 years ago when I switched over to Redline. The case was not tampered with an all bottles had their (annoying) seal under the lid.

The standard passenger car version. Bottom one on your list.

    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

Thanks for the comments. I’ll take another sample in another year (~3k miles) which will be the 3rd consecutive time I’ve used Redline. If the iron and lead are still appreciably higher than the levels of the Mobil 1 sample, I’ll probably switch back and see what happens.

    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

2 year update. The column on the right is Redline 5w-30 which I've been running for the last two oil changes. It's good to see the engine is staying healthy. There were definitely some questions regarding my initial UOA with Mobil 1 since the additive pack differs fairly significantly from other...

    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

Thanks. It’s definitely quick but the handling is on another level. I’ve never been in another car that can do the same things and stay on the road. I’ll probably keep it N/A for the time being but there are some good TVS supercharger upgrades available.

    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

My history with the car started in mid 2018. It was a rebuild title from Wirewheel and I was told the oil was changed with Mobil 1. The dipstick was clean and I had no question about whether it was fresh so I ran it until December 2018 when I did my first oil change with the 0w-40. There is some...

    2005 Lotus Elise M1 0w-40 ~3k

This is the first oil analysis I've done on my '05 Elise (2ZZ-GE). It's from ALS Tribology. I have been doing yearly oil changes which resulted in around 3000 miles on the oil last year. The previous change was also M1 0w-40. The only concern from ALS was that the viscosity was low. I've been...

Need rec, for a 1966 Shelby GT350 clone

GTX 20w-50 still has the zddp needed for flat tappets. Valvoline VR1 has even more.

    High Revs and GC/30-Weight Oils

I'm also a fan of GTX 20w-50 in my old Brit ('70 Lotus Europa). 80+psi of oil pressure when cold which drops down between 60 and 75 when hot. It's geared just about the same as DCG's MGB. I've also heard VR-1 is a good oil. I may give it a shot in the future.

    High Revs and GC/30-Weight Oils

Exactly . It's amazing how thin an oil they run those engines on.

    Engine Oil temp. 219 degrees.

In my MINI Cooper S, I see 225*F, maybe 230, while cruising on the highway. Even in 100 degree heat, it starts coming down after a couple minutes of low speed running or idling.

    amsoil display engine - hoax?

Yeah, all oil leaves a film of protection. What do you think happens at every startup (or worse after every oil change)? I know people who don't worry about oil pressure taking 30 seconds to build after changing their oil.

    Mobil1 0W20?

We use it in our Insight. It's definitely been around before the 5w-20. A couple years ago, they stopped producing the 0w in favor of 5w but then started making it again. Now, it looks like it's happening again. My local Walmart had the 0w-20 on clearance for $5 a quart . I've been mixing the 0w...

    How much wear during warm-up?

I see the same thing on my MINI. I recently installed an oil temp gauge and it doesn't get to steady-state (~225F) until 20-30 minutes after startup. On a warm/hot day, I can usually get the gauge to read over 180F within 10 minutes. The MINI has one of those water-oil heat exchangers. I keep...

    Passat 2.8L V6 eats 5W-30 like it's nothing!

VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) vehicles, in general, have been notorious for bad reliability. I know people that drive them and they usually have some problem that needs fixed. Even worse, these machines are very difficult to work on yourself. I know a guy with a TDI who's valves and pistons...

    Evan's NPG+

It would as long as the water got over 212 degrees (or slowly if it got near that temp). Most cars should get hot enough to get the water out as long as your not using a low temp thermostat.
