Oil for 2015 Subaru Forester XT (2.0 DI Turbo)

It's been a long while since I've posted here; previously I had a SAAB 9-5 AERO (I liked ACEA A3 oils like Mobil 1 0W-40 and GC for that car) and then an Acura TL (Motorcraft semi-syn worked nicely there) and then an Acura MDX (Mobil 1 EP with Honda "FILTECH" filters work nicely for 15,000...

    Mobil 1 5W-30 EP, 15436 miles, 2006 Acura MDX

This SUV has about 52,000 miles on it. Engine is spec'd for 5W-20 but I couldn't find any M1 EP in that viscosity at the time. Oil filter = M1-110 extended performance, one filter used for the entire duration. COMMENT: For an oil run more than 15,000 miles, this one looks pretty good. Universal...

Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance VOA (Blackstone Labs)

    ACEA A1/A5, B1/B5; API SL/CF

Mobil 1 0W-40 (new API SM version) VOA (Blackstone Labs)

Compare to API SL version here.

Delvac 1/M1 5W-40 unsatisfactory in my '02 SAAB 9-5 Aero

The verdict is in, Delvac 1/M1 "Truck & SUV" 5W-40 is unsatisfactory in my '02 SAAB 9-5 Aero. Seems that it's simply too thick--increased vibration at idle (especially with the AC running) and the poorest gas mileage I've ever gotten, 21 mpg over the last two months! (Compared to a record 35+...

No decrease in oil pressure seen with Purolator Pure One

One of the cars I'm taking care of has an oil pressure gauge ('99 Camaro with the 3800 Series II V6) and I thought it would be interesting to compare the oil pressure of a Purolator Pure One compared to what was on there before, a regular STP oil filter. I used the stock filter size for both...

2003 Corolla 5-spd: 3,000 miles on unknown dino oil

Ran a bottle of Redline SI-1 fuel system cleaner during this interval, looks like it didn't hurt anything.

Redline 5W-30 no longer meets ACEA A3?

I was at a local auto parts shop and noticed on the new bottles (blue label) that the Redline 5W-30 is no longer A3 rated, but rather, A5. Same with the 10W-30. HT/HS visc too low? They had a couple of bottles of the old stuff (red label) and it stated "A3-96". Looks like if I try this stuff...

    New Fanta videos!

Hey, remember those Fanta Shokata vids starring Bob, Patman, and other BITOG regulars? They have a new "newscaster" format, a friend of mine made this clip.
  10. Q

Which bottle looks best? Delvac 1 (US), M1 5W-40, Delvac 1 (Canada)

I got the 4 quart D1 jug from a Flying J truckstop in Ohio ($30), the M1 5W-40 quart from a Walmart in central NJ ($4.77), and the 4 litre D1 jug from the Walmart in Patman's home town of Mississauga, Ontario (~CAN$35=USD$25)

    Found M1 5W-40 Truck & SUV in central/southern NJ

Went to a Wal mart over in Lumberton, NJ (near Fort Dix) and found "yellow cap" M1 5W-40! Just $4.77/quart... They also had "red cap" 15W-50 in 5 quart jugs ($20)

    10,000 miles on GC--2000 BMW 528i

No change in driving habits, car parked outside overnight, plenty of cold starts this winter! OE air filter, OE oil filter. Previous two intervals were on BMW's 5W-30 "High Performance Synthetic", thought to be Castrol TXT Softec Plus.

    Best oil for '03 Corolla S & '99 Camaro V6?

Well, two of my friends are off to Iraq soon and they left me in charge of maintaining their cars. Both are using dino oil, changed every 3K at quickie lubes, but I will change the oil in both these cars myself soon. The '03 Corolla S (stick) doesn't seem to consume any oil on what I presume...

    Delvac 1/TFOUT Test ASTM D-4742

Anyone know what the ASTM D-4742 results are for Delvac 1 in its current CI-4 formulation? (Or other "long life/extended drain" oils like GC, M1 0W-40, Amsoil) For D1, all I could find was 905 (CG) and 829 (CH) in this thread. (For comparison, Castrol GTX 5W-30 is 163, and M1 5W-30 is 368)...

Shear stable so far: 3,000 miles on GC in a 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero (high output turbo)

Only about 3,000 miles on it so far, but the viscosity is close to when new (65.8 SUS versus 64.7 SUS). Some of that thinning is undoubtedly due to the 1.3% fuel dilution (lots of cold weather this winter, and perhaps insufficient oil warmup before sampling) Planning on running this oil 6,000...

    Redline's HT/HS

Deep in another thread, Titanium_Alloy posted: Question: has Redline ever been tested using the HT/HS method used by Mobil or Amsoil? Or is there a way to correlate? Mostly I'd like to know if Redline 5W-30's quoted HT/HS of 3.8 is greater than 3.5 on Mobil's HT/HS scale! Thanks, Jason

    2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT; 7,500 miles on M1 0W-40

205 hp, 3.0 liter V6 engine w/42,200 miles. 4.5 quart oil sump. Almost purely short trip driving. New oil filter and 1 bottle of Auto-Rx in the final 2,000 miles of this interval. Now that I think about it, top-up oil was closer to a quart (not 0.5 qt as I reported to Blackstone), using M1...

So... is GC really so shear stable?

Check this out; let me know if I've made any errors... For the first two cars I'm using a VOA viscosity of 65.9 (which is the average of 65.8, 65.8, 65.9, and 66.2, gathered from 4 Blackstone virgin reports) And for the third (Patman's sister's car) I'm using Patman's VOA viscosity of 12.2...
